Now that winter is here, I am setting the over and under for Mountaineer Cancelations at 12.

(This will include cards that are stopped after only one or two races).

What do you think the number should be?

How many MNR cancellations were there in the 07/08 winter?

Why not spend some of that slot money and put down an all weather surface like Tapeta?

18 missed dates last year at say 1.5mil a night handle(conservative est) is a lot of dough.

If you count a cancellation as any card that has at least one race cancelled, then I'll guess 23.

I am only tracking full card cancels.

I believe the cancellations on Sat and Sun night were cold weather related and not track surface related. Cold weather will only cause a cancellation here and there unlike track condition woes which can knock out racing for weeks. When the track freezes its ok but when it thaws that is when the track becomes unsafe. Hopefully there won't be many this year as an increase could lead to MNR going with polytrack.

Three more cancelations 1/17 1/18 and 1/20 make that a total of 6!

I hate spending the dollar on a data file only to have it cancelled after 3 races, like it was tonight (silly, I know but wasted money is wasted money to me). What is the criteria for canceling a card, so I'll know for next time?

Does Tuesday count?
Your original post said "cards cancelled after one or two races".
..They got Three in Tuesday...a third of the card...judges rule???

Jake, 8 degrees with a wind chill was enough for me to pass on buying pp's. I wouldn't want to be out there. Put it all together including track condition adds up to cancel. Don't get me wrong, when I started out with Mnr, I had to learn my lesson. Checking the weather is must.

Good luck,

T.D.

My understanding was that Brisnet credits accounts for downloads of cards that become cancellations under certain circumstances.

The sites that offer free pp's you have to wager on that track. I don't know if three race go by and you didn't wager the specified amout if they will charge your or credit you. Haven't had that happen yet. Let me know.

Thanks,

T.D.

Skikjöring sure looks like fun, but I'd hate to be the guy on skis and sitting in the garden spot with a horse in front of me, in back of me and to the side of me.

Bomb,

You are 100% correct in quoting my original statement of only tracking full card cancelations. Let the new total stand as 5!!

Turfway use to follow this same model. I know they race more there now than they use to since they changed to synthetic. Are they cancelling any days now?

There was a tractor buried on the track Friday night at the Mountain. They really have the track messed up!

I seem to notice Beulah canceling quite a bit, too.

Yesterday they canceled after running one race; they just did the same today.

Last year, between January 7 and March 15, they canceled 17 full or partial cards, including 11 racing days in a row.

I must be missing the point of this thread. It is, after all, Winter time; tracks may be frozen, wind chill minus something, jocks are reluctant to ride, maybe no fans in attendance and therefore the help standing around idle.

watching Beulah this afternoon, canceled after race 1 - it looked pretty bad out there- Philly looked bad also; don't know if they pulled the plug or not.

I took a wild guess at how many times that Mountaineer would cancel during this winter racing season.

The purpose of this thread is to track how close I am with my prediction of 12 to the actual cancelations. Nothing more.

BTW, they have already cancelled for Tues 4-3-09 which brings the total up to 8.

Another MNR cancelation 2-8-09 brings the total to 9.

Correction to my previous post. The 8th cancelation occured on 2-3-09, not 4-3-09.
