Douche bags taking over everything. Thoroughbreds will be on their hit list next. Too much abuse in racing and banning it will make them feel really good about themselves. If there was a vote about thoroughbred racing in any of the douche bag belt states I am sure that the flats would be shut down too. This will open up the door for the government to step in and fill yet another void.

To the common douche racing is all about greed and fat cats. The handicapping part is really hard and shifts wealth to the smart ones, this is a totally anti-douche bag concept. In their minds racing has to go.

As a substitute for the lost racing tax money stolen from cappers one of the nerd douches will program and computerize racing. It will become an on-line game with no actual horse, trainers or grooms. Wagering will be run by the ministry of entertainment and taxed at 50% like other government parasite games like lotto. The proceeds will be split between parasitic programs with the rest being annexed by those running the show behind the scenes like Soros Et Al.

Thoroughbreds next on the douche hit list (http://www.boston.com/news/local/breaking_news/2008/11/question_3_setu.html?p1=Well_MostPop_Emailed4)(che ck out the comments)

Could governemnt manipulate this anti-racing public sentiment to close unproitable horse tracks with casinos? (http://gregcalabrese.blogspot.com/2008/11/dog-racing-banned-in-mass.html)

I love horse racing, and believe many of the owners/trainers have the best interests in mind for the horses.

Dog racing, not so much. I don't have a problem with banning dog racing, as I am an animal lover first, and a race fan second. Discarding dogs like a hamburger wrapper isn't something I support, and therefore, I have no issue with banning the practice. Before railing against people who disagree with you, please try to clean up the "sport" first.

I guess that makes me a douchbag!

They have been hammering this issue here for a while. My cousin is big into the Cause--We STRONGLY DISAGREE..
No doubt Suffolk is on their bleeding heart to do list.......

Suffolk knows this....I think that Is why they took the Anti Slaughter stance.....And other things of recency......

OK check this out....Cut sales tax---Fails
Dog racing ---gone....Tax dollars from it gone.
Marijuana-Up to one ounce--Decriminalized----Now its a fine..

They will have their guns and bleeding hearts gunning to take down Suffolk next---No doubt-----Like I said I know my cousin is big into the movement---

1 ace in the deck............ Patrick goes to Washington if Kerry gets a Cabinet position.....Next in line may (((may)))) be sympathetic to Suffolk Downs......

The LT Gov in Mass is OK and a reasonable man---Know him well--And his vices..

I love horse racing, but I'm not going to pretend they treat the animals well. They are confined to a small box most of the day.

It doesn't look quite over either.....from the end of the pro dog racing ballot...

"Finally enactment will likely subject the Commonwealth to suits by the tracks for taking their property."

Full question here.

I've been involved with greyhound racing for many years in Texas and know many owners, trainers, and track officials. I own a couple of retired greyhounds myself too. If you're an animal lover then you wouldn't be too pleased with a lot of the things that go on at greyhounds racetracks. One track in South Texas recently closed and I helped relocate and adopt out all the greyhounds to their new homes/tracks. While many of the dogs were in good condition, there were way too many that were injured or had been sitting in cages in their own urine.

Believe me I'm no PETA advocate or anything close to it but there are plenty of other things to bet on or handicap other than greyhound racing. Most of the people in the industry simply don't care that much about the dogs or the conditions they are kept in. Adoption agencies do their best to find homes for the dogs that are passed on to them, but not all of them make it that far.

No doubt CJ, but it really ain't that close to what dogs go through when the going gets tough. Yeah, horse caretaking has its share of black eyes, but not to the extent that dogs caretaking does.

I voted for the ban. Dog welfare was not my motivation.

If it was not for the State regulation that legitimizes the business, it would of been dead a while ago.

OK check this out....Cut sales tax---Fails
Failed big.! 70-30% last I looked.

For those that don't know, Massachusetts had a binding referendum to eliminate the 5.75% tax. It was defeated easily. There is an old saying in Boston. If you want to appreciate Boston, leave for a while.

We live good here, good cost money.

Dog racing ---gone....Tax dollars from it gone

Declining tax dollars. While the cost of acquiring those tax dollars rises each year. The money will be replaced by something on an upward trajectory. Like any business, revenues need to go up not down.

Marijuana-Up to one ounce--Decriminalized----Now its a fine..

I don't smoke grass, but with 250,000 college students in Boston, we no longer want to tie up two cops, a cop car, a booking sergeant and a jail cell to arrest a kid with $10.00 worth of grass. Its a huge drain on resources and it makes sense to adjust the civil proceedings associated with it.

They will have their guns and bleeding hearts gunning to take down Suffolk next---No doubt-----Like I said I know my cousin is big into the movement---

Suffolk Downs is gunning to get out of Suffolk Downs. When Richard field bought it he did so only for slots, when slots failed last year he stuck around, if he does not get slots on the next try, he will flatten Suffolk Downs , build a mall, some condos and get out.

This is George Steinbrenner's son-in-law. They have no interest in owning and operating a two bit horse track.

1 ace in the deck............ Patrick goes to Washington if Kerry gets a Cabinet position.....Next in line may (((may)))) be sympathetic to Suffolk Downs......

Ted Kennedy will pass shortly, John Kerry is going to be Secretary of State for Obama. Kerry won 6 more years last night. That means our Governor will be appointing two US Senators, while having a very strong relationship with Obama. While I think Deval Patrick might eventually end up in DC, appointing two US Senators, and having the ear of the President is more power than a Cabinet position. He has national influence with two Senate seats in his pocket.

The LT Gov in Mass is OK and a reasonable man---Know him well--And his vices..

Murray may be a Worcester guy, but he's an institutionalized Massachusetts Democrat. He won't hurt Boston.

I understand that, as most do. But there are old age homes that are not up to par and taking care of people well too and we fix them, we don't shut them down and put old people up for adoption.

This seems to me to be classic overreaching - banning something instead of fixing it.

OK, here's the skinny..I'm 2-for-7 in Presidential Elections, so I'm no Washington Redskins in predicting these things. I am, however, expecting my batting average to climb to .375 after Tuesday. This Year with wholehearted support, I'm drinking the Kool-Aid of change & voting for Mr. Barack Obama(surprise!) in the U.S. election.

Here in the great state of Massachusetts, I'm also voting:

YES on Question 1- No Income Tax..

YES on Question 2- Decriminalization of Grass (Long Overdue, let Police fight crime)

NO on Question 3- "Hey, Teacher, Leave those DOGS Alone!" Steven Crist of the Daily Racing Form (& owner of two retired Greyhounds) wrote about the 'trickle-down' effect if Dog Racing Is Banned. HORSE RACING FANS, you are warned! http://cristblog.drf.com/crist/files/column100308.doc

Fixing the problems of dog racing would definitely be better than banning it- I agree with that. I just don't see that happening given the falloff in interest in the sport. Just too many other things to gamble on these days. It'd be like putting lipstick on a pig...

There is no way horse racing fans can view this as anything but a negative with how it relates to our sport.

Bob I think its so hilarious that I bump into you at different cyber venues and TVG on Monday // Tuesday's

I had to go the other way on one....Being a state hack--The Wife also---She is with the DA-----They Put you over a barrel----With me---Cutting my settlement--Reducing my Retirement..

How many people in MA will lose their jobs now? And what is the revenue the State just lost losing the dogs?

If I was a dog I would bring myself to the Vet and have him / her put me down......They put Dr Jack in jail for doing that service for people.. Idiots.

I 2nd----Here here..

OK what State will take A disabled Cop with fragments in my spine.....I would hate to get caught up in the ban-----New Hampshire is Massachusetts 20 years ago.....There catching up fast......

I want to go to a quiet state---Is Wyoming quite.......Lots of land more animals than people----A neighbor a gun shot and a half away..

I think Bob lives in Fitchburg---Makes Worcester look sane and peaceful comparing the 2...

Next Mass will ban little kids riding lessons:faint:

If I was a Massachusetts resident, I would also have voted yes to ban dog racing. I cannot see how a dog sitting in a kennel for 20+ hours a day, sitting in his/her own stained bedding can be seen as humane.

And as far as Boston goes, I would move there in a minute if I wasn't trapped here in NYC. I've been there many times and I like the slower pace of the city.
