View Full Version : Traffic cost me money

I made some picks last night and decided to go to the track today. It's normally about an hour drive to Lone Star Park. I didn't make the bets online because I wanted "cash in hand!"

The traffic in the DFW area was so bad.......I just gave up and came back home. I got back too late to bet the races I picked online.

Of course I missed out on a $31.40 winner at Delta, a $56.60 winner at Charlestown, and $15.80 and $11.60 winners at Hoosier! I am not lying.....swear on the Bible.....that I had planned on playing each and every one of these horses if the odds were over 4-1...which they all were. I didn't even mention a horse at Hoosier in Race 1 who I had planned to play at 9-1 or higher that placed and paid $38.20 to place! I might have bet to place since his odds were so high.

What might have been possibly the single greatest night of racing in my life is shut down by the incredibly horrible traffic in this area today!

I am soooooooooooo mad !!!!! :bang:

Phone Wagering comes in handy sometimes.
I've been in situations similar to this. Have been able to call them in if need be. I'd recommend opening a twinspires account, even if only for this purpose.

Thanks for the info. I was so mad at Winstar when they closed the racebook! I wish I would have known earlier!

I have an account with ehorse. I'm not sure if they offer phone wagering, but I'll definitely check into it.

Oh man Dave, belive me I'm not trying to add insult to injury but I have been on a run like that. And it hasn't happened since fall of 2001.

(biting own nails, cross fingers for you, burn ritual candle)

If you're locked in though, more are on the way.It is the paint on the canvas of a horseplayer's art.A win streak has no ceiling, ride the lightning baby!!!

I know I'm not the only one who does dumb things and misses out on winners, but it still makes me mad...... I just had to vent!!!!

I'm just saying bro, when you are in a groove you are right on all counts and really, you can run the bank up the flagpole. You could find every angle in the book-the lone frontrunner, the closer that flashes speed, the horse that beats a false favorite, lone closer vs mega-duel,well meant and bred firster, the mud horse over the easy favorite exacta for $150.00.Don't discount your immediate prowess. You might be locked in for a hella run.And you'll know when you aren't to prevent damage.

Like I said-ride the lightning baby!!!!!!!It can be otherworldly!!

I didn't have the $38.20 place horse at Hoosier after all. I read the result from race 3 instead of race 1, so I didn't lose quite as much! The place horse I had in race 1 paid $16.20....still hurts a little!

$25.40 winner in race 9 though! You might be right.....I need to ride this out! Hoping for more longshots tomorrow....

Don't know if it will make you feel any better; but , last year I was trying to get my Youbet $$ up for free video. I signed up for the phone wagering and it used keys for different things. I was on track at Calder too. I got all screwed up trying to input a P3 play , trying to input it multiple times and lost track of the minutes to post. The first race was off and I was SOL. The P3 paid $1800 that I was trying to input. And I sat there like an idiot 100 feet from a teller. Now that was truly one to remember and one I will never forget it, just like the time I took out 1 horse out of a $50 P6 play and got tagged at the wire by that same horse for $30,000 . or the time I was live for a P6 at Saratoga and singled Cashiers Dream over You in the Test stakes and got nostrilled at the wire for $10,000. Ah , fond memoriies:bang:

I don't believe the racebook closing was Winstar's fault. The Oklahoma Horsemen shut down the signal to Choctaw racing, who supplied all the tribal OTBs in Oklahoma.

They've been negotiating a deal all this time. I've heard that Riverwind, the Chickasaw casino outside of Norman, has reopened their racebook too. I guess somebody blinked.

I know that you are trying to block that single out...but, it was Carson Hollow that was nosed by You.. Great race, and ride by Bailey on You. I have watched the replay..and still think that you were a winner.

you're right, I just watched the video and it was Carson Hollow, and Durkin was right , the race didnot deserve a loser, and it looked like CH won too. I want to see the photo :bang:

I remember my first near pick 6 win ever. I singled Geri who lost by a nose to Spinning World in the Breeder's Cup. I hit 5 of 6 and lost only because I left out the fastest horse in the world at that time! At least I actually got the bet in though!

I know it won't help you much, but I have now 1 lifetime memory that I will never forget about beating myself.

I am not a pick 6 player, but it looked very hitable a few weeks ago at Delmar. I played a $24 ticket 3x2x2x1x1. hit the first two horses, then on the third leg I missed the 2 year old maiden race, the horses I selected ran second and third, then who wouldve thought I hit all three singles after that.. the reason I was so mad, is because I rushed through the picks, and left out a horse I would have no doubt used possibly even as a single, Bob baffert trained first time starter out of Unbridled's Song...... who ends up being a now star Midshipman.. Cost myself $23,000  but I did get the the 5 of 6 twice
