Regarding last night's late Pic4 at Yonkers. There was a dead heat in the final leg between the 1 and 3. Before the race, the probable payouts were, for the 1 ($168) and for the 3 ($943). Naturally the 3 was ~14-1, while the 1 went off as the favorite. My question is this, the Pic 4 payoffs were identical. That being $111.00 for either. I had the 3 and feel ripped off. Why would the payoffs be the same for each? I felt there should have been different payoffs with the 3 naturally being the larger one. The DD, perfecta and plain Win bet pay more with the 3, so why not the Pic4. Does anyone know the answer?

Each jurisdiction has different rules regarding payouts, refunds and takeouts.

In years gone by, all this pari-mutuel explanations were published in the racing programs, a practice that has NOT carried over to either simulcasting or the internet.

An actualy Yonkers program may provide an explantion, or, perhaps even the NY-ORC website:

This may help

The Big M rules in NJ may shed some light here, but are hard for me to understand.
Pic 4 rules differ from Pic 3 in dead heats, saying a winner counts as a leg winner regardless of odds? not sure.

At least in NJ and in the right column, it clearly provides that the pool will be distributed EQUALLY and regardless of odds.

Wilderness... found the info which explains the situation depicting dead heats for the Pic4. Thanks for the site. Instead of getting $943, I picked up $111. Was I surprised when they first posted the payoff. I though it was a definite mistake. I can't win even when I win.....

Charlie,
Ray provided the link and he deserves the thanks :)

I'll tell you an getting screwed story ;)

At one time, the only method I had of wagering the Meadowlands online was through WEG. At that time the Canadian pools were NOT co-mingled.
I wagered a $1 tri which won and paid $1400 for 2 at the Meadowlands, 700 for 1, in the non-co-mingled Canadian pools it paid $525 in Canadian funds, which after the transition to US was $375. What a bite in the backside.

The official results posted on the tv monitors and on the USTA web site show the pick 4 paid on a 3 out of 4. Knowing you had the winning combo(especially with that 50-1 shot in the 7th) makes the whole thing suspicious. I didn't see the will pays before the race but I would definitely inquire about the payout.

Here is the official rule that I found on the NYSWRB Website

(h) Dead heats. In the event of a dead heat for win in any or all pick four races, all pick four tickets designating either horse to win in said race or races shall be eligible for participation in the remaining pick four races, and the net pool shall be equally distributed to the winners, that is, the net pool will be divided by the total amount represented by all winning tickets and the resulting price, per dollar, and after breakage, shall be the payoff price, which shall be uniform for any winning combination.
