That's why a figure average is generally more effective as a predictor of performance than the figure from any one specific race.

There is no "works" or "doesn't work". The BSF's are figures for the particular race they are associated with. That's it. According to the book, Speed to Spare, which has been talked about recently, when comparing similar track conditions and distances in past performances a 3 point edge in sprints and a 2 point edge in routes shows a significant advantage. It doesn't mean the higest recent figure will always win or that you can make a flat bet profit with highest recent figures. They should be used as overall a guide to form, seperating contenders from non contenders etc. People assign BSF's with attributes that Beyer himself never has. Then they get mad when they "don't work"!

Sorry, but I can't see playing a $12 exacta baseball, AND a $24 trifecta baseball, AND a $24 superfecta baseball in every race. And if I hit the big soopadoopa on the first race ? Well, I will retire the system with many thanks. Hell, why not the top 5 or 6 Beyermakers, and any ties ?

P.S. :) .

I'm sure it would work even better if you did some qualifying, like downgrade those whose figs were earned during soft trips.
