Is it me, or does Ohio get an inordinate amount of weird news stories?

BLUE ASH, Ohio – Police in Ohio say an 89-year-old woman is facing a charge of petty theft because neighborhood children accuse her of refusing to give back their football.

Edna Jester was arrested last week in the Cincinnati suburb of Blue Ash.

Police say one child's father complained that Jester kept the youngsters' ball after it landed in her yard. Police Capt. James Schaffer says there has been an ongoing dispute in the neighborhood over kids' balls landing in the woman's yard.

Jester said Monday she has received many calls and didn't have time to discuss the matter any more.

Jester is to appear in court next month. The maximum penalty for a petty theft conviction in Ohio is six months in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.

Here's another one..Only about 10 miles from my house..

North Canton man found beheaded in trailer

NORTH CANTON OHIO-- A North Canton mother looking for her son who missed a family visit found him beheaded in his trailer on Saturday.

Brett Smith, 34, was found in the bathroom after his mother broke into his Balsam Street trailer when he failed to show at a family gathering.

Stark County coroner's investigator Rick Walters said Judy Smith called police and asked them to check on her son earlier in the day when he did not show up to visit with his niece, a visit he made regularly.

Police went to the trailer but got no answer.

Judy Smith then went to the trailer, and with a neighbor broke open the door with a pry bar.

She called 9-1-1 about 7 p.m. Saturday to report she found her son. "It looks like he is in the bathroom but his head is missing,'' Smith told the 9-1-1 operator. "His head is missing. I know it sounds weird.''

Police found the head in the trailer but would not say where it was found.

Walters said Smith lived alone in the trailer.

Walters said an autopsy will be done today. The death was ruled a homicide.

Sounds like a drug deal gone bad.

I've been through N. Canton many times, I grew up about 25 miles from there.

Canton is the home of Marilyn Manson. Lots of strangeness in Ohio. :)

Yep. That reminds me of a lot of people I knew in Ohio.

Gotta love the Star of David on the head of the ghost. Nice touch. Very classy.

What a shithead -- the homeowner -- not the ghost.

The death was ruled a homicide.

Really, they ruled it a homicide? I thought maybe it was suicide - he cut his head off and placed it somewhere else in the trailer before finally kicking the bucket.

SOmetimes you gotta wonder why they include stuff in a story. Did anyone think this was anything other than a homicide?

I know Stow. Had a cousin and an in-law who lived there. So have been there a few times. I went to Kent State.

Fortunately, the vast majority of people in Ohio are wonderful people.

Even the guy who hung up the ghost is probably not a bad guy -- just ignorant.

Sure hope that autopsy determines the real cause of death.

Hopefully it will shed some light on the homicide investigation.

Yup, John, I thought more after my post and before your next - you're right.

It's possible he died of other causes and then was decapitated.

The other questions are who did it and what was the motive.

My hunch is that it's drug related.

Smith had a falling out with his neighbor and he is in custody as the number one suspect. His neighbor has a shady past.

I also had a hunch that it had to be someone he knew. Why else would someone enter a trailer and cut off someone's head?

I admit, I'd make a lousy detective.

not as violent as California, but just as goofy.................

Btw, the cutting the head off is a tradition when crossing certain types of gangs who deal in drugs...........
