Not a big fan of heat and humidity, but I have to say Xtra Heat is a special little filly.

Going into today's Prioress, facing several other promising fillies, many of which had never before been defeated, the daughter of Dixieland Heat had just two losses on her record of 15 starts, one in her lone try going a route (in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies), and one on opening day at Belmont in the Nassau County, when beaten by just a whisker in the final strides.

Her connections were very vocal about their desire to sell her during the winter months at Aqueduct, seeking over $1.2 million for her, but she has yet to be sold, and she keeps on winning.

She didn't get to win the first 16 straight races of her career, and has tasted defeat more times in less starts than Hallowed Dreams, but this 3yo filly deserves respect. Involved right from the start, as usual, getting the half in 44.63, Xtra Heat edged away for the neck win in Belmont's Prioress over a very tenacious Above Perfection, who is perfect no more. The final time was 1:08.26.
