I don't understand how this could happen. If you have a website, how does someone steal the name?

Its possible to get a domain in between the time it takes to get the domain renewed. This one was last renewed on 06/24/01. Here is the info from the WHOIS lookup.

Usually there is a "leeway" time. When my husband was purchasing buyavon.com for me, the name had expired but wasn't released for sale. We had to pester someone to finally release it, and we snatched it up.

Hubby was looking to purchase horselady.com for me, and it was expired, but again not released for sale. We missed out on the opportunity to purchase it unfortunately.

This is an intellectual properties and patent attorney that might be able to help you.
