MEADOWLANDS HOSTS BREEDERS' CUP LEGENDS

The three jockeys who dueled in the inaugural Breeders' Cup Classic are together again -- and racing fans can meet them in person Friday, October 3 at the Meadowlands.

Pat Day, Angel Cordero, Jr. and Laffit Pincay, Jr. will greet fans and sign autographs beginning at 6:30 p.m. on the Paddock Level. Plus, 15 lucky fans and their guests will win dinner with the Hall of Fame jockeys in Pegasus Restaurant that night. The three legendary jockeys are touring the country to commemorate the 25th running of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships. Their ultimate finish line is the 2008 championships at Santa Anita Park.

Entry forms are available in the Meadowlands program and at www.meadowlandsracetrack.com. Completed drawing forms should be given to a Guest Services Representative at Meadowlands Racetrack, Monmouth Park or Favorites at Woodbridge. Fans can also enter by e-mailing media@njsea.com with the subject line “Legends Tour Dinner” and should include their name, address and phone number in the e-mail. The drawing will be held Tuesday, September 30, opening day of the 2008 Meadowlands Thoroughbred Meet.

The $350,000 Grade II Meadowlands Cup is the featured racing event on October 3. The Meadowlands’ Gas Card Giveaway also continues with 20 drawings for $100 gas cards. First race is 7 p.m.

REGISTRATION OPEN FOR MEADOWLANDS THOROUGHBRED SURVIVAL CHALLENGE
It will be a battle to the finish for cash and Meadowlands IPODS in the 2008 Meadowlands Thoroughbred Survival Challenge powered by 123Racing, an online handicapping competition that begins Tuesday, September 30.

Enrollment for the game, which has a fresh, new look this season, opens Tuesday, September 23.

The game covers the 41-day Thoroughbred Meet, which features over $1.5 million in stakes purses highlighted by the $500,000 Grade II Meadowlands Cup for 3-year-olds and up on Friday, October 3.

The winner is determined by the highest total bankroll at the end of the Challenge based on a $2 “across the board” wager [win, place and show] on selections for three designated races each program.

However, to continue in the game, entrants have to “survive” by finishing in-the-money [first through third] with at least one of their selections each day. Failing to do so, or not making selections knocks the player out of the game. A new addition to the game is the “lucky horseshoe.” The lucky horseshoe is a “free pass” given to all Challenge participants that allows the player to survive if he does not make selections for a race card or all three of his selections fail to hit the board. If a player survives until October 18, he earns an additional lucky horseshoe.

The grand prize is $2,000. Second-place is $1,000 and a Meadowlands IPOD Nano; third-place is $500 and a Meadowlands IPOD Nano.
There is also a bonus award of $500 and an IPOD Shuffle for Most Number of Winners.

The contest is open to legal residents of the United States and Canada, and all selections must be made through the format provided on the Survival Challenge website page. No selections will be accepted by phone, fax, e-mail or any other means. Past performances for the three designated races will be provided through the game board.

The deadline for selections each day is 30 minutes before first race post time. Racing will be conducted six days a week for the meet with Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon cards starting at 1:10 p.m. Action will shift to the nighttime for Thursday, Friday and Saturday cards, which get underway at 7:00 p.m.

First of all sorry about the Mets, two years in a row losing the same way reminds me of a maiden we had who would go to the front, open by 10-12 lengths and get caught at the wire everytime. I think the Meadowlands is putting on a great show by bringing this group of jockeys here. I hope there are enough people to fill the dinner give-away!
