Now that I have gotten most of the estate affairs in process, I am thinking of taking a short vacation to the Keenland Fall Meet:
a. Do any of you have plans to go? If so what dates?
b. Can anyone recommend a good motel near the track? I do not need 5 star luxury... even a cool log cabin would work.

I'll be there, from Oct. 3rd - 25th., check the cluster of motels at exit 113 / I-75, there is every flavor, from HI, to Ramada, to Knights Inn, and you are only a few minutes from the track. Usually sans Man O' War traffic also.

Ken, Glad to see you're getting out.

I used to always stay at Best Western in Frankfort, it is a short drive a little north and west of track. Nice drive past many historic farms, and price and availability was always good.

There's a Fairfield Inn (Marriott) also on US 60 just past the BW place. As BIG points out it's a very nice drive to/from the track on 60 past Versailles and the horse farms. Probably a 20-minute drive.

I am very much looking toward my very first visit to the Bluegrass state Oct 18th-20th. Keeneland has been on my "bucket list" Hope to visit a nice farm, experience the dawn works, the various ammenities and viewing locations at the track, the restaurant nightlife, maybe a SEC football game, and taste the bourbon! Understand the good people in that part of the country are very nice. All I need is decent weather and a commericial flight without the usual snags. :D

Indeed Lexington is a wondeful city. This time of year is great, as well. Nothing like a trip to Keeneland and a good SEC showdown at night. Three Chimney Farm does a nice tour if that is what you are looking for. I do believe they only do the tours during the week, however.

The best rates are at the Sheraton Four Points which is about seven miles from the track which is easy to get to from this location. We normally get a rate of about $75 per night and the rooms are really pretty decent.

The very closest motel to Keeneland is the Comfort Inn and Suites off Harrodsburg Road, at Fieldstone Way. Leave Keeneland's front gate, travel straight down ManOWar Blvd, take a left on Harrodsburg Rd, and its down a bit on the left. Less than two miles away.
Around the motel, there are restaurants, Applebees, a Mexican one, etc., etc., the Liquor Barn and other conveniences. There is also Palomar Shopping Center between the racecourse and the motel with restaurants, ie, a new Malone's and a chinese one, Asain Wind, that's excellent, as well. Its at the corner of ManOWar and Harrodsburg Rd.
There is also, in this area, a Fairfield Inn/Hampton Inn.
The next exit/major thoroughfare beyond Harrodsburg Rd, is Nicholasville Rd, and there are many places to dine, here, as well.
This will save you a great amount of money on gas. The motels others have mentioned are much farther out at the Interstate exits, particularly those that are south at Hamburg Place. Too, on weekends the exit onto Versailles Rd to enter Keeneland from New Circle Rd can back up, and slow to a crawl.
I would make reservations right away, if you're planning a weekend stay.
Have a great time. By far, its one of the best racing spots in the world.
I lived there, and still go back often.

here you go

I found some mention of shuttles, but none specifically to keeneland.
The Airport is right across the street.............that should be a cheap ride
Btw, if you expect to get a seat (providing you don't have reservations at keeneland) you better look hard as soon as you get there. Or you will spend the day standing.............

Thanks, for the map, it looks like the track is across the street from the airport. There will be taxi's at the airport on standby I am sure of that. However I guess I will take down a few taxi phone numbers. I need to boogie from the track to the airport to make my flight home. I was wondering if taxi's wait outside of the track to pick up patrons, if worst comes to worse I will just call ahead to get the taxi protocol at KEE.

Tons of Limo's picking people up though................
Make a call to keeneland.........they are great on Customer Service. Maybe they can give you the scoop

Keeneland just put up a new website, check it for transportation to and from the airport, they probably have some sort of shuttle. You can call the track also.
I understand that the new website includes a lot of downloadable (database) data on poly also.

You will be able to get a cab from Keeneland back to the airport. I have had to get a ride back to Uk's campus many times becaue of one too many drinks inside! :D

Looks like this lingering upper respritory infection and a 10 day course of antibiotics (that just want to make me sleep) are going to keep me at home for now. I will have to cancel my plans to attend the Keenland fall meet.
I guess I have to save up my strength for the Breeders Cup instead.
