I don't follow harness, but I know that voice...Guy usually gives scores and stuff when calling harness..Collmus did Suffolk yesterday, and this guy is filling in...Ken Warkentin called yesterday...
So if there is reason for the post, whats this guys name?

From your description I'd say it's Larry Lederman. He won't be doing his schtick today, I'll bet you that.

It looks as if MP is in need of a new announcer, Larry will go to Kentucky and thus a new announcer will be needed. I vote for Frank M currently anchoring TVG and a fantastic race caller, he can also do impressions when we get those really boring NJ bred days. I hope he is the one to take Larrys job if he does go to Churchill.

Larry Lederman is one of the most entertaining race callers in the region and an NJ treasure. I enjoy when he has to reign himself in to call flat racing instead of harness (he fills in at the PHA sometimes.) The only harness I ever happen to watch is Freehold, and it's because of Larry's calls.
Great guy.

From what I hear, no more NJ bred days after yesterday. Only 200 foals this year in NJ anyway.
Didn't know larry was moving on.

Phillypark is the reason the breeders are taking them to Pa instead of keeping them in NJ. Look at the purses for the Pa breds they are very strong! No casino BS with them, NJ needs to rid itself of NJSEA track ownership get a private company in to take it over and bring the slots in so we have solid purse structure for years to come. Any ideas on who could run these tracks?

Since the passing of Luke it has been rumored larry would get that job after Gulfstream closes for the winter meet.

Yeah- Halsey Minor
Or, get Harrah's to run them.
I'm not on the inside so haven't heard anything, but Collmus makes sense at CD. So does John Dooley with someone else taking Arlington mic. Dooley already in CD family and perfect fit with FG- a month off after the meet and only small overlap in November.

lederman makes a harness race at freehold proliferating. i loved him in the old days at garden state and ac.
i wish there was something that could be done about slot machines and private ownership for new jersey racing. i love it there, and private ownership might be able to attract more fans along with the fan base it has.

The idea that Halsey Minor wants a track with history should be enough to get him to look at Monmouth park, he should let NJSEA keep the Meadowlands and do slots and poker in Pegasus.

As a mth regular who has never heard him before I have to agree.
He may grow on me over time but yesterday I found him annoying. And that was on a day I won 3 out of 4 plays.

As I said earlier my pick would be Frank m of TVG he is a great announcer but it seems a lot of people may disagree with your opinion on Letterman they like him from the ACRC days.

The only way I see slots at NJ tracks is if the State permits racebooks at the AC Casinos. And that has to get by the stick in the mud NJ Horsemen....For a place loaded with liberla democrat voters one would think NJ is progressive. In NJ things move at a snails pace. Heck that state still has no Sunday shopping blue laws.

I can't help but hear it sometimes while at the Meadowlands, if he pulled that during the T-Breds, that would have been a mockery.
Job is to call the race, not be score updater...Thats his thing. Don't care for it.

He was a fill in caller on Sunday. You have to take into account the fact that he is not real familar with his surroundings and has not called many TBRED races in recent years. I think he was trying to have a little fun with what he had to do. I have heard him announce a million races and I could tell that he was not 100% confident with the content he had to describe. He limited himself to just calling the horses, not really mentioning the jocks. But, he was clear, made no mistakes that I remember and had some decent stretch calls.
Larry NEVER makes a mockery of a big race.

You may not have been to Atlantic City in the past 25 years or so, but Casinos already do have racebooks. Funny thing is that most of them do not care for the crowd and Management finds that putting slot machines in that space makes them more money anyway.
I guess they need to work on their PR if after 25+ years people think casinos do not have racebooks. :bang:
As for Larry Lederman, he is one of the best in the business!

JimYou're right It has been a while. Never was a big fan of AC. Simce I left NJ I don't pay as much attention but still read the local papers on line. Guess I missed the news.
Anyway. Notwithstanding the existence of racebooks in the casions, I still speculate that the casinos would do everything in their power to keep slots out of the racetracks

Spot on call here!
They have been doing this for 20+ years. If the tracks pushed slots before simulcasting they may have actually won that battle, but since the racing officials are in the casinos "pockets', no one would even make a legitimate try.
Everyone thought Codey was racing's "friend", but he proved otherwise when he had a chance to do something.
The horseman are voting with their feet sending their stallions and mares to other states which have slots in their tracks.

The casinos will stop giving monies to the tracks in 2011, the casinos are going thru the same economic woes as everyone else. It is time for NJSEA to get out of the racing business in our state forever. The Meadowlands is the ideal place for the slots as the pegasus is set up for a casino more so then any other racing facility in the state. Monmouth does have a few areas that could be converted into slot parlors but it makes more sense to me that the meadowlands would be the first recipient of these revenue producing machines. Someone mentioned 200m a year from slots if done correctly and correctly means run by a corporation that has done this before, not one of the gov's personal friends!

Yes MP is having its opening day on Derby day for 2009. I will check to see if anyone knows the AC dates. There has been some speculation that the meet will be 20 days in 2009, this was in a bloodhorse article last March. By the way the 2008 Meadowlands meet will be from September 30th thru November 15th, Monday thru Saturday with day racing Monday thru Wednesday(1:10) and night racing Thursday thru Saturday(7pm).

Onefast have you heard anything about Monmouth reverting to a 50-60 day meet, Memorial Day to Labor Day 4 days a week? I have heard that one circulating for awhile. I know that is contrary to current legislation (I believe the one that allowed full-card simulcasts), so the horsemen would have to permit.
I for one would love that set up, especially if it would mean getting Mth over $400k/day. Ideal NJ season would be 20 days AC say April 15-Sunday bef. Memorial Day; Mth Memorial Day-Labor Day (about 55 days); Med Friday after Labor Day-BC (about 35 days); AC from Friday after BC-T'Giving for another 15-20 days or so. I love Mth but I think the out of season part of the meet really detracts from the meet overall.

The schedule opening date of the first saturday in May was the only thing I had heard from one of the racing officials. I did hear a bunch of things as you did on racing four days a week with higher purses but none of it has been substantiated. I dont see why they would change the current meet at MP and the Meadowlands as it has been this way for quite a while now except for last year when they went to the Meadowlands early due to the Breeders Cup. I still would like to see a Sunday early bird card at Monmouth park during the fall where you could run 8 solid races and end with enough time to offer those who stay for simulcast a football/racing buffet and those trying to get home for the 4pm games would have plenty of time to do so, just a thought.

No, but he makes a mockery of the others, and that's the problem were with his style. If I were in the minority, and so many loved him, he'd be somewhere other than Freehold (which he only inherited because the guy that was there shot himself in the foot) and AC.

Agree things at AC would have to change, and you'd have to be able to run on the dirt. But the point of this meet would be to extend the season a bit and to make AC more viable than it is now. Maybe you get by with the 20 Spring dates and just run through T'Giving at Meadowlands. The longer season would make breeding in the state a bit more appealing. I recognize now the J-breds are extended but they need to make breeding here more appealing.
I'd love to see the horsemen buy AC from Greenwood.
And Onefast I wouldn't mind seeing Mth open on weekends only in September. It is a great time to be there and your rapid-fire Sunday card is a good idea (they don't seem to far from that now).

I disagree that every other race he calls is a mockery.
Also, What is so bad about Freehold? The track runs 10 months a year. Yes, there are more pretigious tracks, but at least your are in the same place.
