I have gone to several track websites looking for changes 45 minutes before 1st post and most tracks still dont have changes posted. They dont even have off the turf listed . I feel that there is alot of work to do to adjust for changes and they should have changes listed promptly. Nyra is very good, but most tracks are tardy. I feel the past performance info is very good and has most info , but why isnt 1st time geldings not reported and listed in the form ? I think 1st geldings are a good angle and it is worth including 1st geldings in exotics. When they win , most of the time they are at a big number.

Some providers want to charge 25 cents per bet yet they can't even tell you about a jockey change at the last minute.

You just have to be really on top of things yourself, because if you count on the racing industry to give you extremely important handicapping information in a timely and efficient manner, you're going to be so disappointed that you might cry yourself to sleep at night.

The only way to know that Awesome Gem wore Mud Caulks in last years BC Classic is to have seen them in a closeup picture of him in the Bloodhorse magazine a week later.

Someone i know asked me to write an article for their website about why its good to become a racing fan and i told them no, i couldn't do that with a clear concience.

This has been a sore spot with me since 4NJBETS paid the grade school kids from India (AKA Scientific Games) to design their new website. Usually it is just awful, but after repeated emails, we finally got to know that the turf was "dead"! EVEN for harness tracks! Now that IS some sharp racing minds to give that one out!

But, one of their biggest mistakes is that even in the betting interface when one part of an entry is scratched, they do not report it. I emailed on this with a race from Arlington. #1A was scratched and the race was OFF the turf. They showed NO track condition, had TURF in the race conditions and showed the horse still running. I guess they call that a TRIFECTA! :)

Now we don't pay 25 cents a bet, so I guess we should be happy. Although if we did have to pay that amount, I am sure the casinos would get more business.

It boggles the mind that with all of the combining of resources going on to cut costs there isn't one central place where all scratches, track conditions, etc/ get reported.

I may be in the minority, but I go from website to website, TV signal to TV signal, and even the weather channel trying to make sure my horse is running the track is fast, they are on the turf, etc.

It is 2008 in most industries, racing is still in the 80s and they are too stupid to realize how much money they are losing because of it.

Great post.

Big Brown ran on the turf the other day at Mth and it was reported by Jill Byrne on TVG that Desormeaux said the turf wasn't soft and it was firm. So, i get to the final race on the card, which was the last race (BB was in the 9th and there was a turf sprint carded) and i didn't know if it was a dirt or turf race so i had to skip the race altogether. On the Monmouth television, they have the changes scrolling on the bottom but there was no mention of 'off the turf'. I was assuming it was a dirt race because of the amount of scratches, but then i have a little thing i like to do and that is look at the wagering and see if a horse with no turf form is bet down hard. In this case the public made a turf horse the favorite, so i was THEN thinking "well, this must be a turf race because the 6 is hammered and he looks like a stone cold turf horse"

I didn't know FOR SURE if it was a dirt race until they showed the load....at that point, it was too late to make a smart gamble, so i passed.

I'm sure that at some point during the day, the ontrack fans heard an annoucement, or people who were even at home and were seriously following Monmouth knew of the change, but i was following many tracks at the same time and just flipped on the Monmouth stuff for the 9th race and kept it on for the 10th. There should have been a 'red alert' on this particular race.

If you are management at Monmouth you HAVE to understand that if we see the 9th race run on the turf, there could be people who think the 10th might also be run on the turf. This stuff needs to be flashing in bold letters NO TURF FOR THIS RACE.

Do you need to be able to put a man on the moon to understand how some horseplayers might think the race after the Big Brown race could be run on the turf? Youbet is no help, if a race comes off the turf, they don't seem to have the capability to let anyone know....same thing with xpressbet, information as stale as 10 day old bread.

No excuse for it.

You can check the track website , brisnet, or equibase for changes; of course it is tricky when playing alot of tracks at once

They are not nearly as accurate as they could be.

Too true. I got caught on the monmouth site myself 2 weeks ago. They had only one race as off the turf when all were; and they put things up piecemeal , not all at one time. No excuse for all tracks not to have 1st time gelding too for that matter.

As they say, "two wrongs don't make a right". Don't wait down to the last minute to find out about certain types of info. All you need to do is call the racetrack and ask for the racing office what changes they have. I know it's extra footwork but it can help save a few bucks or maybe even make a few bucks.

i kind of like the fact that first time gelding isn't known by everyone. All you have to do is look at the form from the last time the horse ran when you suspect it. (that's if you happen to have that form.lol) It is a great angle though.
