A fellow h/c at CRC has been using various versions of FAST FRED for the past several years. Not as a black box, rather the angle's it covers. One of them being a horse's odds goes from bad to worse the last 3 races. It doesn't work everytime, but when it does you are looking at a nice mutual.
The only reasoning I can give it is that the Trainer is hiding form by putting animal in "wrong race" until he is ready to nail one. As an example last race at CRC today, last 3 odds went from $2.30, $3.70 and $7.00, paid $15.40 to win. Worth looking at.
