Maybe I don't pay enough attention to things like this, but I always thought Google would redesign its logo on its search page in order to represent something significant going on in the world (holidays, olympics, etc. etc)

I expected to see something commemorating the anniversary of 9/11, but alas, nada....plain as every day logo stares me in the face as I type.

Was I expecting something I shouldn't have? Perhaps it's a policy of Google to only honor "happy" events and I just didn't realize that face? If this is not Google policy, then perhaps they are avoiding 9/11 for other reasons which we can debate further....

What say you?

They tend to recognize most holidays, with the notable exception of Memorial Day, which they ignore every year.

A Google spokesman said in 2006 about Memorial Day and the lack of a doodle, "If we were to commemorate this holiday, we'd want to express reverence; however, as Google's special logos tend to be lighthearted in nature, this would be a particularly challenging design. We wouldn't want to create a graphic that could be interpreted as disrespectful in any way."

"Tend to" as in "not always". And they don't have the artistic ability to to design something that wouldn't be disrespectful? My 11 year old nephew could draw something that could express reverence in a half an hour. Yet, they were able to design a non-disrespectful treatment to commemorate the date DNA was discovered. :bang: Odd.
