View Full Version : Another change on the BRIS site

Not that it makes a hill of beans difference, I thought I would post a notice that BRIS has made a change on their web site.

In the past, if you accessed too many files in too short a period of time, you'd get a prompt for a psuedo random password to be entered. The password was displayed on the screen and you would have to read it then type into a field on the screen before you could continue. I've always assumed this was a scheme for them to protect themselves from thieves scraping too much information.

The old scheme was fairly easy to read -- kind of a block letter display with some "snow" that would discourage machine based OCR from processing the characters. The new scheme is similar to others I've seen on other sites. The field is now a series of random letters of different fonts, sizes and colors, distributed in a haphazard manner. A little harder to visually read and type so you can continue.

What a bummer. I've been a customer of BRIS ever since they came down on Jimmy's service and basically put him out of business. (However, they did adopt his AOdds format and it continues to be available. And AOdds format single file data will probably be a lasting tribute to the man.) It just seems to me BRIS makes it harder and harder instead of easier. They have every right to protect their business but I have come to the conclusion they're just like the rest of the industry they serve -- so entrenched in their ways and not a clue about customer service.

I was trying to register on a site the otehr day and it took me 5 tries to find one of those stupid puzzles I could read! The sizes, shapes, and colors make it almost ipossible to read.
The internet really facilitates idiots in business.

Customer Servace? Bet they can't even spell it.:D

Challenge-response -- that's the succinct expression I should have used.

CAPTCHA as a word is new to me -- now I know! Thanks!

You hit the nail on the head; with the purchase by Tracknet, BRIS is now literally run by a bunch of kid programmers in Silicone Valley who I would lay 20-1 on have never seen a horserace, let alone bet on one. I know for a fact that the head of Tracknet, Vernon Niven, has zero interest in horseracing and has turned down offers to learn about the basics of wagering. Could you imagine the head of any business not being curious in the product/service they are selling/providing?

Brisnet is irritating because I always have to enter my password to get anything. I don't like those irritating "gotchas" or whatever they are either.

What bothers me is that some mgr at TwinSpires is calling the shots directing IT people to implement stuff that makes it more challenging for bettors and paying subscribers to get charts...

while at the same time other more important things could use attention.

For example, when I logged into BrisBet to get scratches and track conditions for Monmouth today I was presented with this:

How would a customer that uses a Brisnet software data file know if changes are being made by Tracknet to the Brisnet data files?

Jeff, looks to me like the perfect excuse to install an all weather surface.
