View Full Version : Pacific Classic - 3 NTLs

It appears to me there are 3 need the lead horses in today's running of the Pacific Classic, Barcola, Well Armed and Delosvientos (de los vientos?).

Can any one of these three fool us today and be around at the end after dispatching the others, or, will they all fade away?

If there's one that appears to be doomed at the out set, it is Barcola. No way do I see him going with the other two from the gate. But then, he's got CNAK up and you know he can read the PPs.

Inside speed did quite nicely on Friday evening's card. I didn't play yesterday, though (damn day job). If well ridden, I give Well Armed a shot (the other two you mentioned have surface issues). And I like Gryder on a pure speedball. He'll send Well Armed and that should give him his best chance to win. I'd play him at 8-1 or better.

I'll be using Surf Cat liberally. He could get a good stalking trip and be in-front at the top of the stretch. It's a great race and a great card. Good luck.

I see Surf Cat pressing the pace. At a distance shorter than 10 furlongs I would consider him a contender. However, I don't see him kicking it up a notch, today, in that last 1 to 1.5 furlongs to get a piece. I find others have stronger finishes for today's distance.

If Delosvientos is not a true NTL type and does hang around longer than his running style and modest beginnings would suggest, he could be very dangerous.

Well Armed, having just beat two others in today's race, could get a piece. For myself, he's useful as a part of an exotic play.

I've been debating this issue all morning going over the race and in the end it seems like there is tons of speed. It looks to me that it should be a hot pace. I consider Well Armed the strongest of the early speed. I'm going to have a small play on Mostacolli Mort. In the San Diego Well Armed set solid fractions but did wire the field without any pressure up front. Mort only missed by 2 lengths coming from last and circling the entire field very wide. In my Picks 3s/Pick 4 ill be using Mostacolli Mort and Student Council (and maybe Awesome Gem) in this leg.

don't forget Mast Track, arguably the most dangerous of the 4 need to lead types in this race.

The race really sets up for Awesome Gem or Go Between

However, Mast Track or Well Armed could also run off with it if the track is favorable...

And then there's always the clearly best horse in the race ; Student Council.

It is another one of those super-dynamic synthetic track races with many moves and many specialists. It will probably be decided by track bias.

One of the editors on publichandicapper.com uses "the ragozin sheets" to project a number. The 3 horses you mentioned are in the top 5. Basically the top 5 are projected to run the same number. Variance if I recall is from .5 to 1 pt. I know very little about it but it seems strange how close the numbers are and how high the ML odds are of the horses in the top 5.

I believe The Sheets may be a sponsor of his website.

How about this potential monkey wrench in the fast pace scenario (which I agree with)?

It's hard to imagine a slow pace unless a couple of the dirt horses dislike the synthetic enough to not show their usual speed.

Zappa

yea that little guy loves the synthetics.

This race is a little bit like the Travers for me, where I like too many...

I am going to try to get a clue about the track from the 7th and 8th races and see how speed is holding.

^ Race 8 not 9 oops
4268 ... The 4 took off! The 2 beat out the 6 for 2nd:rolleyes:.
Speed friendly but not a tremendous bias. Could play against a horse like Awesome Gem? Love Monzante here last was a deal at 3-1

ESPN Hank went all in on the favorite :3: with a straight win and exactas on top and bottom of three horses...:(

So far in the all stakes pick four, two chalk favorites have finished off the board. Jeannine Edwards said Midnight Lute grabbed a quarter and was bleeding pretty bad; let's hope he's okay.
