Saturday August 23rd, 2008 TRAVERS STAKES DAY

Our tally for the meet based on $ 2 win bets and $ 1 exactas

Wagered: $ 405.00 Returned: $ 620.70 Profit: $ 215.70 Return On Investment: +0.53 or 53%

Full fields, quality horses and gorgeous weather. Such is the layout for today's Travers Stakes Day. First post is 12 noon NYC Time.

RACE 1: You know the fields are going to be tasty when you find horses who have run higher speed figures than the par and they are going off at higher than 6/1. # 4 BARRIER REEF posted a career high early speed figure with the addition of blinkers last out. Now sheds the blinkers and will definitely be a price. But the barn is extremely wise. # 5 WEST EXPRESS is the lone early speed runner and if Prado wants to press his luck, he could pursue a crafty wire to wire score. # 7 GOLDSVILLE with Mott and Desormeaux. These guys nearly pulled it off with a turf score Friday but were nipped in the stretched. Goldsville has been improving in last two races the Aug. 9th work at Saratoga is quite impressive.

PLAY: Win bets on # 4,5,7 at odds of 9/2 and better.

RACE 2: 2 yo colts looking to win for the first time. Let's go shopping. # 3 FLORENTINO goes first out for McLaughlin and he pops them at 18%. # 5 SOMETHING GOLD debuts for Steve Asmussen and his number 1 rider Bridgmohan. Another trainer who debuts at 18%. # 6 YORE goes for second start and Charles Dickey is $ +1.14 with this maneveur. # 7 STRONG CLUE goes second out for Dallas Stewart who has Harlem Rocker in the Travers. But he can pull off an upset with this colt who is sure to be ignored with the substandard Churchill race. But Stewart wins at 18% with second time starters.

PLAY: Win bets on # 3, 5, 6, 7 at odds of 4/1 or higher.

*****
RACE 3: The entry from Bobby Frankel is solid # 1 CHOSEN EMPIRE AND # 1A MAJOR GENERAL. # 2 BET THE LIMIT is bred forever to win in the first two starts and goes for Shug McGaughey.

PLAY: Win wagers on # 1/1A and # 2 at odds of 4/1 and higher.
*****

RACE 4: Lots of these horses have been knocking heads trying to escape the NW1 level for quite awhile so we look to 3 horses that have not failed too often trying to graduate. # 5 VICTORY ASSURED would need to step it up a few notches to capture this grass race but Hennig and Desormeaux are capable minders. # 9 EL AMIR just lost by a nose at Belmont last out. May go off as the favorite. # 11 DAZZLING DEREK is bred for the grass and will be in the mix in second go-round on green.
PLAY: Win bets on # 5, 9, 11 at odds of 4/1 and better. Exacta 9 over 5, 11.

RACE 11 TRAVERS STAKES- What a nice race .First we look at a horse that is on the improve and is bred to run all day long for the this testing one mile and a quarter. # 9 MAMBO IN SEATTLE has not faced graded stakes competition yet but has been improving greatly in his three year old campaign and this field has not had much success at all at this distance. Should be making a nice closing run and capture his 4th win in a row. # 12 COURT VISION is an upset special who moves from turf to dirt with Billy Mott. Would make up for the rough Spa meet he has had.

PLAY: Win bet on # 9 and # 12 at odds of 7/2 and higher.
