Congrats, they got married yesterday.
But this creates really bad public perception. Any thoughts out there regarding a married couple riding in the same race. Both jockeys are amongst the leaders at Fort Erie.
I know brothers ride against each other, and fathers and sons have. In fact, Cory Clark's dad has ridden against her plenty of times.
But is it now different that married couples pretty much have the same financial interest?
I like to think that this won't add up to more corruption than what we are used to.

You're a little too nervous there. There have been quite a few married couples who have ridden against each other, most recently Rosemary Homeister, Jr. and Jose Ferrer (now divorced about a year now.) You could tell that each one was trying to beat the other in every race...that's probably what killed their marriage.
If you think like a married couple, one would think that the main objective would be to try to run 1st and 2nd in every race to win max money. That wouldn't be a bad thing. On the other hand, who's to say that they won't keep their finances separate like many other couples?

I didn't say I'm particularly nervous or upset by this. I was just putting it out there for others to respond to.
Public perception is important.
And married couples may have separate bank accounts in many cases, but all the money goes in the same pot that is split equally upon divorce.
I'm OK with this.
Fort Erie also had Maree Richards and Martin Ramirez ride against each other at the same time. That marriage as well, didn't win up that good in the end.

If public perception were really important, then trainers wouldn't have three uncoupled runners in a single race. After all these years, I really doubt that racetracks, or even more: horsemen, worry about public perception. They already think that the people in the stands are nothing more than degenerate gamblers.
