Harlan’s Holiday joins Medaglia d’Oro in Dubai World Cup field
Trainer Todd Pletcher confirmed on Tuesday that multiple Grade 1 winner Harlan’s Holiday will start in the $6-million Dubai World Cup on March 29 at Nad al Sheba."Medaglia d’Oro will be a prohibitive favorite, but we think this is a great opportunity," Pletcher said. "It’s a large purse, and we want to give it a shot."

The World Cup field is shaping up to feature perhaps its most star-studded international cast in its eight-year history. Also expected are top Japanese stars Gold Allure and Eagle Cafe, French Group 1 winner Aquarelliste, and multiple Group 1 winner Nayef. Additionally, Godolphin Racing is aiming 2002 World Series Racing Championship winner Grandera to the race as well as Group 2 winner Moon Ballad, third in last year’s Epsom Derby (Eng-G1), and French classic winner Sulamani.

Campaigned by Jack and Laurie Wolf’s Starlight Stable, Harlan’s Holiday is undefeated in two starts this year at four, including an impressive 2 1/2-length victory over Hero’s Tribute in the Donn Handicap (G1) on February 22 at Gulfstream Park.

Pletcher said that Harlan’s Holiday would have his final North American work on Thursday at Palm Meadows training center before shipping to Dubai on Saturday.

Harlan’s Holiday was the favorite in last year’s Kentucky Derby (G1) after putting together back-to-back wins in the Florida Derby (G1) and Blue Grass Stakes (G1). The Ohio-bred son of Harlan has won nine of 18 career starts and earned $2,275,164
