The Debate Between Figures and Flesh-and-Blood

HORSE SENSE:
The Debate Between Figures and Flesh-and-Blood

by Steve Collison

How much do you know about horses as they pertain to handicapping? I'm not talking about as they appear in the Daily Racing Form or on a computer screen but as individual animals with different strengths and weaknesses which directly influence your perceptions of racing. If you mention a new pace handicapping software program, the average handicapper becomes interested. Mention something about confirmation and gait affecting a horse's chances of getting a distance and suddenly the porch lights begin to flicker. It's not an exaggeration to state that 95 percent of everyone reading this article knows nothing at all about horses. Since this game is based entirely on horses, this begs another question: Doesn't that seem slightly odd?

AHHA... you took the words right out of my mouth Biscuit and thanks for posting this article.

This I truly believe is the one of the major keys to winning, I say this very humbly because I have personaly stumbled and have gotten "eaten up and spit out" learning over the first 5 years, or so, trying to beat this game.

I have posted before that I use this strategy of rating horses as individuals at the meet(s) that i am wagering.I have been doing this currently at Plainridge Racecourse and have just began putting it into practice. The nice thing is they only race two days out of the week which is a nice break for me.

Well, let me get this right......if you go to a website, and for free, can view a piece of information, and you just pass it along to another open public forum, to view for free, that is stealing ?....If the law says so, then so be it.......But , I don't get it.......I will need to be educated, to be sure.....

I agree with Lotta. If people don't want things quoted or whatever they shouldn't post them

if you went by Lotta's "everything is fair game" rule

you could mirror the ESPN CNN Foxnews websites on your own server and sell ad space. It don't work that way..............

The Internet and Copyright:

"The Internet has been characterized as the largest threat to copyright since its inception. The Internet is awash in information, a lot of it with varying degrees of copyright protection. Copyrighted works on the Net include new s stories, software, novels, screenplays, graphics, pictures, Usenet messages and even email. In fact, the frightening reality is that almost everything on the Net is protected by copyright law. That can pose problems for the hapless surfer." ("The Copyright Web site" http://www.benedict.com/)

What is protected on the WWW?
The unique underlying design of a Web page and its contents, including:

links
original text
graphics
audio
video
html, vrml, other unique markup language sequences
List of Web sites compiled by an individual or organization
and all other unique elements that make up the original nature of the material.
