in the last race @mountaineer 8-19

show payoffs

9 4.60 the 9 had $684 bet on it to equal total $1573

8 8.60 the 8 had $287 bet on it to equal $1330

3 2.80 the 3 had $1518 bet on it to equal $2200

shouldn't the total money's paid out be the same in all 3 spots?

i think there is something like about $300 missing from the payoffs.

net pool pricing doesn't exactly work that way.

Bill, I am one of those who thinks they know what Net Pool Pricing is, but..in fact, don't. After the mechanics of net pool pricing are applied to a show pool (per the example of this thread)...is the show pool divided and paid as usual?

Yea, my teeth itch every time I think about it. The best attempt I've found to explain it (without looking really hard) is here:

If I understood the link right, the track makes the currency adjustments, removes their takeout and basically get a blended figure for the pool total?

So favorites will receives less and longshots get more because the biggest share of this exchange will go against the winner because there is no calibrations for the effect of wagering among the different horses?

Is that right?

Bill...your teeth may itch, but my head just exploded. Husker, I don't know, as I can't even get to the net pool figure in the first chart.

Yes, a net of takeout, exchange rate adjusted figure goes into the pools.
The net result is diminished payoff to the favorite and slightly greater to the long price.

Top chart - ADW "A", "B" and "C" are operating under the local currency (no exchange rate) Pool totals less takeout is $951.88 + $2,408.53 + $722.00 = $4082.41. ADW's "D" and "E" using foreign currency with an exchange rate add $802.00 + $802.00 X the exchange rate of 1.30 = $2085.20 to the pools for a total of $6167.61.

Rather than rehash a previous thread - refer to here:

Thanks...I was trying to apply the exchange rate to the wrong currency pools. Once the net (network) pool is determined..the pools are divided as usual...right?

Yep, then untangled going the other way by dividing by the exchange rate.

just read an old article by Dowst and he showed, mathematically, what a poor wager SHOW is, unless, of course, a bridge jumper is there.

One more point to address the original post in this thread. It is impossible to calculate multi payout prices from the tote board alone without the knowledge of the mix of different monies involved among the winners.
