I have been playing the Q's and have been doing ok and spending less money, the only time you can really see the difference if a longshot wins and the fav runs second. Other than that I love em.

I used to play quinellas on the greyhounds. The Q is a good bet for the dog races cause they're much more unpredictable. If you can separate the early speed and/or the closers from the rest, box them in a quinella and as long as two of them are at the front, you're alright.

I mostly play WPS on the thoroughbreds.

I never played WPS on the dogs.

Quinellas become a strong bet against the exacta whenever there is an odds-on chalk that seemingly can't lose. More often than not, the quinella will pay the equivalent if not more than the exacta, regardless of who you choose to finish second. In this case, the quin is like playing an exacta with less risk of losing your bet in the event the second horse beats the chalk.

I must be missing something here . If the quinella pays the same if not more , why in the world would anyone play the exacta ?

Exacta's and Quinellas EACH have their own SEPERATE POOL. Right?

That being the case those payoffs would be determined by who bet on what. Right?

If people play exactas and don't play quinellas I can see how you might get a better deal.

What I do not understand is how the two are related as described.

Thanks

Most people I know feel its a coward's bet. NY people. Sorta like kissing your sister. But I forget where I am. This is a PA forum so I'm figuring a lot of you guys here are into that. Maybe some of you girls too.

The $2 Quinella is for all practical purposes a $1 exacta box. If you like boxing exactas, then if a quinella is offered, it is worth looking at the payoffs. Were there perfect knowledge and perfect efficiency, then the prices should be the same. However, the quinella pools are generally much smaller than the exacta pools and thus inefficiencies can occur in a given race causing a quinella payoff to be more or less than the exacta. However, trying to pound this bet will probably end up depressing the price, while pounding an exacta combo will have very little effect due to pool sizes

If you are inclined to box a short price and a long price in an exacta you may want to look at playing the long price over the short in the exacta and play the Q with both. Most time the Q pays more than the short over the long price in the Ex. As a bonus, if the long over short hits, you cash both.

For NYRA Races 2 & 4, if I like a horse that's 12/1 or higher, I will bet that horse to win, Box with another horse in an exacta, & (rather than bet my longshot to place) I will part-wheel him in a quinella with my exacta horse & two others.
(i.e., instead of $4WP on the 12/1 shot~:5: :
$3W~:5: , $1Ex.Box~:5: &:7: ,&
$1Quinella P-Wheel::5: w/:7: ,:9: ,:10: =$8)
The reasoning is, I'll get $7 or so to place, or $14, with $4 bet to place on :5: ..
where any Quinella keyed with a 12/1 shot should pay well over $24 for $2..
If I really doped out the race, I could get my $3 win bet, my $1 ex.box, & the Quinella on a :5: ~:7: result.
The downside? when the :5: wins @ 12/1, the :10: runs 2nd @ 28/1, & the Exacta comes back $380 for $2 & the Quinella comes back $130 for $2. BUT, even then you're getting $36 on the win & $65 for the $1Q=$101, as opposed to $4WP on the 12/1 shot that pays $26 & $7 to place=$66

If, and this is the big if, you are a boxed exacta player then it can be profitable to play the quinella times 2 what you would have played the exacta. Example: a $2 box (cost = $4) of the 1 and 2 is paying $18 or $26. A $4 Q is paying $15 but you will have it 2x for a payout of $30. It can of course work the other way- it does pay to watch the tote.

Possible onset of Alzheimer's.

I hope not! I did handicap the wrong day one time, so I wonder! I went to the track, pulled out my papers and saw none of the horses matched up! I looked and saw that I downloaded the form one day early! So, I went home and came back the next day!

Watching the probable pays helps identify those opportunities.

the house quinella was the greatest form of beating casino's out of their money that i have ever seen, and most likely ever will see. the house q was calculated win times half the place on the second horse. example winner pays 6.00 and second horse pays 4.00 to place, your house q payoff would be 12.00.

i heard there are very few places in the desert that still take the house q, and for those that take it the most they book is $10 or $20. and if you win they will tell you to take a hike.

5 times today at DMR the fav won and the 2Q paid more than a $1 EXACT BOX.

In the last race the fav ran second and the exacta was the better bet.

5 times today at DMR the fav won and the 2Q paid more than a $1 EXACT BOX.If the pools are bet similarly, the quinella should always pay more than half the exacta when the lower-priced horse wins; and vice versa.
