As everyone must be...I am heartbroken :( at her passing. She did live a very full and wonderful life, yet still, we'll miss her so much.
I think she and Winning Colors are racing across the clouds together.

RIP Genuine Risk

Unlucky not to have gone to the Belmont with a shot for a Triple Crown.

My Maryland friend and I desperately tried to go visit her in June. We had it all planned and everything.

Sadly, when we called, they told us that they no longer allowed Genuine Risk to have any visitors. The guy on the phone kept insisting that "the horse is fine," and that they just wanted her to spend the rest of her days in peace. Since GR had always seemed to enjoy having people around, we suspected something was up.

Poor thing. What a great horse! I would have loved to see her. I'm glad she died peacefully on her own, like Seattle Slew. :(

Do not forget Regret, another Kentucky Derby winner, who beat the colts in 1915.Few realize that she was a Great racehorse, and beat males throughout her career. In fact, she never lost to a female horse. In four seasons, she raced eleven times and won nine races. One of her losses was to her stablemate,Borrow, and the margin was a nose. Will we ever see another filly in the KD?

Will we ever see another filly in the KD?

SURE D. Wayne will convince some owner to try it.

To correct the above post #6.......Genuine Risk, couldn't have been contending for the Triple Crown, since Codex, won the 1980-Preakness Stakes, with Angel Cordero, aboard.

No horse can go as fast as the cash I bet on him or her. :D

...who got a nasty write-up in the Form for his "rodeo" riding tactics against Genuine Risk

I read the news in the paper yesterday. I remember watching the Triple Crown races. She was some filly. She won the Derby, and if I remember right, she ended up second in both the Preakness and the Belmont, the only filly to end up no worse than second in the Triple Crown races.
