after reading all of the materials ,on the hana.agenda the most pressing issue is the tax law bill for sighners..your streth in numbers is only good if you can write the congressmen/ women of the state in witch you reside. i asked a trainer friend of mine about the hana format..he said its a great idea but..we have no money..and money gets things done..i thought about this for a wile ..is it possible to have a on line fundraser? that would enable the hana represntation to go to the very people who do have a voice..ie congress/ forums /tournys /trade shows ...the major tournys should be hit along with the vegas drf capping seminars..imo..thanks hooves

HANA tries to improve the industry by representing the interests of Horseplayers. Right now, HANA can turn on a dime and take on any issue that arises. HANA is run by passionate horseplayers and is not beholden to corporate interests.

Money changes everything.

You're right, HANA could get a lot more done with money.

In order to start raising money some controls need to be put in place. A corporate non-profit entity needs to be formed. That may require an attorney. HANA could probably find a lawyer who would volunteer. But that takes time away from core activities.

An accountant and bookkeeper would be needed. Tax forms would need to be filed periodically.

Fundraisers would need to be conducted. Time and effort would have to go into raising money -- time and effort that could be spent elsewhere.

HANA is running a marathon and it only started a fraction of a second ago.

I hope HANA will be around for a long time and maybe a corporation will need to be formed at some point.

In the meantime, there is a lot of good HANA can do for Horseplayers and the industry at the grass roots level.

Of course, if you want to jump on board and organize the fundraising events and help HANA incorporate, I'm sure we'd all love to have your help!

I know the term has a lot of negative connotations, but the establishment of some brief, basic "talking points" might be a good idea as it will help provide a more consistent message to the media as well as to fellow horseplayers and racing fans.
