It wasn't just rain, it flooded and did some real damage to the track on the backstretch

Oh crap!
So, do they have any simo at Toga?
I'd better download some contingency files!

Finger Lakes?
Del Mar?

They said it would take an hour to repair the track so they cancelled. Isn't it worth just cancelling two races and running the rest of the card, or just delaying the card. I don't understand the thinking.

Its Friday, happy hour, party time...free money and the start of a weekend.

Said it would take at least an hour to fix it, maybe more especially if it rained again. However, if you owned a horse that was supposed to run, would you want him to run on a surface that was degraded so badly? If your answer was yes, then they definitely did the right thing by cancelling. Besides, that was the amount of time just to get the track in shape to run on, not get it properly maintained. Got 3 more days before the next break. Is it worth risking screwing up the track by rushing it today and then losing more on saturday because trainers and owners don't want to run on a bad track? It's unfortunate for those who were there (who hopefully didn't get beaten too badly by the hail that fell) but it's an outdoor sport, which makes it subject to the vagueries of the weather.
