Well my neighbor got himself into a little bet and im steping in to help him.

I have an extremely fast 3 wheeler and am going to basicaly drag race a horse 65 yards
Anyone have any idea of the times a good quarterhorse can get in 65 yds?

The 3 wheeler ran it in 3.5 and we are looking to drop that a bit more with a gearing change. For a little more information and some otheres oppinions look here

A decent running Qt should get 250 yards in about 13 and change (seconds).. No idea as to how to get that down to 65 yards...but think it would be close.

The track record for 100 yards at Remington Park is 6.464 seconds. So I imagine you might have a race on your hands.

If everything goes well the quarterhorse should get 65 yards done in about 3.4 seconds.

This is intresting to me, Assuming it maintained the same speed the whole time for the track record run. Lets divide by 3, (to brake the track into thirds)

In one third of the track the horse will run a 2.154
Now we multiply that by 2 (to get the time for 2/3 of the track time) and you get 4.309

Now that an estimated time for 66.66 yds,

Which my bike will run just a hair over 3.5

Now i do think it will be close, but i do belive that i have the numbers advantage.

I expcet the horse to shoot out first, but i dont think it will be too hard to catch it. hopefuly

Here is a pic of the ATV

Its a NINJA 750 streetbike converted to a drag 3 wheeler
its about 400lbs and just over 100hp First gear tops out at around 75mph

Better get Bob Baffert to train the ATV.

What would possibly make you assume that?

The quarter horse should continue to accelerate til somewhere just beyond 400 yards.

I have no idea who would win, but you have a cute little trike.

It does not matter if the Q-horse or the motor scooter is faster. Just go to the owner of the horse and tell him for $500 you'll be just a bit slower than the horse.

I don't think QH's are rated

I figure that it is going to continue to acclerate, but look at the math i did. For simplicity reasons, i assumed that, Not knowing the rate of accleration or top speed of the horse i cant figure an accurate time. That just takes the overall time and seperates it into 3 even times.

I don't think QH's are rated

How did i rate it??

About 30 years ago they race an off road vehicle owned by Scoop Vessels VS a good quarter horse at Los Alamitos

As I recall the off road vehicle actually had a name - "Oly Bronco"

The quarter horse was Gray Dancer, a very good q-horse trained by then Los Al mainstay D.Wayne Lukas

Dont quote me but I want to say the race was at 50 yards?? pretty short for sure, maybe as much as 70-75 yards

I went thru some mental math at the time, and decided if Oly Bronco got good traction from the start, he would win for sure
The prevailing thought was the quarter horse would win

Oly Bronco did in fact get great traction right away and won easily

It want ever close

An instersting aside, Grey Dancer came "out of this race", and jogged in her next start, paying 15-1 or so as I recall

Better yet, get Dutrow. I'm sure a little WINstrol in the tank would help!

Is the QH a racing QH or is it a backyard riding QH. If it's a racing QH, your screwed. If it's a backyarder, you may win - giving that they ride it in a clunky 40 lb western (gaaaaaaak) saddle.
