I am just curious if any of you folks have ever heard of a Hialeah jockey named Chaffin, first name possibly Charles, mid-1950s. OR if you know of a website where I can look at a list of all jockeys. I have not found such a site yet, of course I am only one week into my horse racing interest........Thank you in advance.

There were some books published annually (perahps another may provide the name) which contained all the US race resutls.

That might at least provide a beginning direction, if your able to locate a library with the books.
From there, you might wander in the direction of newpapers on microfilm, a rather slow and very time consuming process.

Thanks.....does sound like a lot of work. It was just an afterthought anyway. When I was reading at www.savehialeahtrack.com (http://www.savehialeahtrack.com) I remembered that as a kid, I lived down the street from that jockey and his son and I used to be friends, so then I decided to ask and see if anyone had heard of him. He could not have been too well known or some folks here would remember......thanks for the information. I appreciate it.

I get some really unusual and vague information requests via my websites, from grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
These are generally folks that have no knowledge of harness racing and the industry's lack of extensive archives.
Neither are these folks (at least as a general rule) aware of the work required to accumulate the information.

Most are just thrilled to stumble across a name in reference to what they are looking for, that they assume more information exists.

You could always try to pick up an old Hialeah program from the 50's to see if he is listed in there, if you are not able to

I know you said mid-50's but there is a program from 52 being offered on ebay right now. Not sure if that would be too early or not, but figured I would throw it out there just incase it helps.

Thanks very much....It would be 1955 and 1956 and possibly even 1954, but the first two years for sure. Not earlier than 1954. OHHHH do I feel old at just 61 !!!

Just a few years ago I was a young Marine, in at 17 and out at 21, and look how the time flies......
