Saratoga puts the best of the best together for the meet (trainers, jockeys and horses) and there are so many variables. Sometimes a handicappers mind can do spins. But keep in mind the constants in doing your handicapping: ability, class, form, pace, trainers, and jocks.

Here are our stats on the Saratoga meet 2008 (based on $ 2 win bets and $ 1 exactas)

Wagered: $ 155.00
Returned: $ 161.55
Profit: $ 6.55
Return On Investment or ROI: + .04 or 4%

Travelin’ light on this Friday card. Not the worst set of races but some races have solid favorites and we are always looking for races that allow us to beat the a fave. Saturday and Sunday’s cards are much better.

RACE 5: # 8 HALTON has a lot of good qualities. Takes a dip in class, gains the services of a good jockey, and had the lead in the stretch before giving it up and now comes back in less than 30 days. Dale Romans can ship them in and win a few. Has some early speed too which is crucial in the maiden sprint and especially at Saratoga.

PLAY: Let’s get 4/1 of better for # 8 and then go with a win bet.

RACE 6: Look who is here. Another Romans/Albarado team. # 7 PALM PRINCESS has really taken to the grass and is riding a 2 race win streak. The early/presser speed is very appealing and we think the filly can take one more step in improvement and make it three in a row.

PLAY: Win bet on # 7 at 5/1 odds of better. (Grass only)
*****

RACE 10: Maiden state-breds on the inner turf. Gary Contessa is always solid on first time route and he moves # 5 TIME TO WIN up to MSW. Has some tactical speed and may surprise at a price. Wouldn’t need so much to beat this hurting field.

PLAY: Win bet on # 5 at odds of 6/1 or better (Grass only).
