"Initially, Stanford Linear Accelerator Center employees expect to use the faster data transfer speeds to share massive amounts of research collected by physicists studying the fundamental building blocks of matter. But in the long term, Internet users and businesses could benefit from the findings. "

I want to know what server did they use to serve that data up?

I don't see anything in the average home that can serve up a dvd movie in 30 seconds? How about a hard drive to catch it and write it to disk? None that I know of can do that. I bet they served it up from a disk cache in Ram and sent it into another cache on the other end. If you wanted to save the data to a hard drive it would take over an hour depending on the drive. If you wanted to write it to a removable disk it would take about 3 hrs at today's high priced speeds.

I see a whole new market for faster hardware. Here we go again

I ran into this connection when I was in Japan last year...

How'd you like a 100mb Internet connection for about $74 per month?

Notice that is "100mb," or about 67 times faster than a T1!
