“Harness The Winning: The Definitive Book on How to Make a Living Wagering on Nothing but Harness Racing”? I noticed it on Amazon, and it seems fairly recent.

Any thoughts on this?

cheers

The author talks about a website opening soon after the book starts selling where he will be selling his picks.

I've been on a quest for an affordable book on harness racing. The short answer is that there is not much out there.

I've read Ainslee's "Complete Guide to Harness Racing." Like most books on this subject, it is very dated. It does, however, give a LOT of useful information. I'm souring on his "method", but I can't dispute that he has taught me a lot about the sport. I at least know enough to tweak his system to adapt to modern times. I got this book used for very cheap.

I've also ordered Barry Meadow's "Success at Harness Races". (It's due to arrive in the mail today.) He is a very respected author, and this book is cheap and available. It is, however, old. I'm not expecting too much from it.

There are a ton of out-of-print books that are fairly expensive. ($50 and up.) That's a lot to invest for a beginner.

If you're willing to spend the money, I'd buy Barry Meadow's "Professional Harness Betting." It's only 10 years old, which is actually not that bad for harness books. The downside... it's $99. If I stick with this, I'll probably order it.

There are a lot of other books at Gambler's Book Shop. (http://www.gamblersbook.com/weblink.cby/items/HAR300.html) The prices are fairly reasonable. The problem is that almost all of the books are quite old. There is also some self-published junk.

In the meantime, I'm waiting for Paddy to write a book. I've read his website, but it's not exactly linear.

Go to USTA site and read a ton of Pandy's articles.
Also, there is another great site with a lot of good articles---

Mark Chaplin's stuff is good.

I wish Marc Cramer were a harness guy. I love his stuff.

Actually Mark Cramer does delve into harness as well. He sells something called "Harness Profit Portfolio" and he talks about harness on his website:

and I second the the idea of a Pandycapping Book (as well Dick Schmidt, cj, .....)

Cramer also does a weekly column on harness racing at YouBet - in the handicapping section.

I'm not expecting too much from it. I just finished this book. It is WELL worth the $7. It's not for experts, but it is definitely a great book for beginners.
