there are 8500 banks thru-out the country, with $13.4 trillion in deposits.
the low estimates for the indimac bailout is $4 billion. the last 2 banks are estimated at costing them $1billion. if 1 major bank and 10 smaller regional banks go under how much will be left from the $53 billion the FDIC has put away for losses?
if insurance regulators looked at the financial condition of the FDIC they would be shut down immediately. of course the FDIC is backed by the citizen's of this country, so what i imagine would happen is the printing presses will have to work overtime to print the money needed to payoff.
that is why the value of the dollar is falling now, and will fall below 70 real soon and gold will be $1200 an ounce by the end of 2008.
