Saturday’s card was tremendous with four stakes races and for most of the day, nice weather sans a late rain shower. Let’s hope Sunday’s card keeps all the grass races. We coupled into the winner in race 4 with the scratch of Saint Barr. However, Acai won to the tune of $ 26.20 providing us with a small profit.

Thus far with 4 race days in the books:

Wagered: $ 80.00
Returned : $ 139.35
Profit: $ 59.35
Return on Investment: + 0.74 or 74%

Today, let’s be patient, wait for an edge, and no need to be involved in every race if the situation is not right.

RACE 2: Many handicappers are scared of the two year old races. Look for strong early winning pedigree. This attribute can always outrun a trainer who is poor at debuters and often at a price. But a solid trainer with 2 yo debuters is to be feared as well. We set a betting line here with a few win candidates:

# 1/1A Scorch The Torch / The Third Degree- Both bred to win early – 6/1

# 2- Cribnote- Second start and closed like a banshee in debut after trouble. Violette excels in second out- 3/1

# 4- Natty Meboy- Scott Schwartz is bound to pop a big price in one of these state-bred races. – 8/1

# 6- Tall Poppi- Coa/Tagg are as reliable as they get. We like the Salt Lake grandsire element- 6/1

# 7- Footnote This- Pletcher/Velasquez team up and never count them out- 7/1
******

RACE 3- Think the # 8 CITY ROAR is vulnerable. Not fond of the outside post and has never tried the Saratoga strip. Why take a possible 8/5 price on such a filly? So, let’s go with two lightly raced and improving fillies who can be forwardly placed:

PLAY: Win bet on # 3 CRITICAL CATHY at odds of 3/1 or better. Hill has been joined at the hip with this filly and only bad race was 4/28 when she broke slow. Hushion does well with Barry Schwartz owned charges.

# 5 QUIXOTIC LASSIE- Fresh winner and has been training great at Saratoga. Contessa wins 21% out after a win. Take 5/1 odds or up.
****

RACE 4- Not the most inspiring bunch. But we do have a longshot pick in the # 4 LAST TRAIN BABE and he exemplified that in his last start in Philly where he stopped. But we like the fact that the horse has won 33% of his races and Dutrow and Johnny V are the combo. Has early speed and mid post.

PLAY: Win bet on # 4 Last Train Babe at 5/1 or more. Play exacta box 4-6.
*****

RACE 6- 2 yo fillies and we really like Nick Zito’s # 8 MISS OCEAN CITY. Has been training extremely well and Nick has developed into a solid first out conditioner. Our second choice is # 4 WAR ECHO with Asmussen and Bridgmohan.

PLAY: Win wager on # 8 Miss Ocean City and # 4 WAR ECHO at odds of 4/1 or higher.
*****

RACE 7: This turf affair will not go in the record books of hall of famers so we are going to take a stab at two prices. Although the outside posts on the turf routes are disadvantageous, we feel it is worth a shot with # 9 JUDGE’S PRIDE (win at Saratoga and great turf jock in Coa) and # 10 HANGINONAPRAYER (lightly raced and capable with Prado guiding).

PLAY: Let’s get 5/1 or higher on these two for win bets.
*****

RACE 8: If we get 4/1 odds or better on a well-bred filly with Pletcher and Johnny V, such is the possibility with # 5 SAHARA WIND.

PLAY: Win bet on # 5 SAHARA WIND at 4/1 or better.
****

RACE 9: Welcome to the 5,000 win club Mr. Kent Desormeaux. # 1 YOU AND I FOREVER goes for a third win in a row and Billy Mott is always dangerous in stakes races. The colt is versatile and the inside post should allow him to do what he pleases. Lots of smiles in the winner’s circle.

PLAY: Win bet for # 1 YOU AND I FOREVER at 3/1 or higher.
******

RACE 10: Oh Baby, this one is a Dandy with Pyro returning, the Belmont Stakes winner Da Tara likely not to go off as the favorite, and some horses who have been up and down. We are going to go with Wood Memorial winner # 5 TALE OF EKATI. Horse has been working up a storm for Barclay Tagg and has a second place finish at the Spa. Prado reunites like old friends. If this race doesn’t pan out, look for Tagg to out the horse in a turf race sometime in the near future.

PLACE: Win and Place on # 5 TALE OF EKATI for odds of 5/1 or higher.
****
RACE 11: In Saratoga turf sprints, horses with early speed and mid to outside posts fare well. Here are two horses to end your Saratoga day with. # 6 THE ZIPSTER has Linda Rice training and switches to the green. # 7 GIVEITYOURBESTSHOT with Desormeaux and Hennig. Probably the best horse in the race .

PLAY: Win bet on # 7 at odds of 3/1 or better. Win bet on # 6 at odds of 6/1 or higher. Also, box the two in an exacta and make an exacta box 6,7 with the 1.
