Day 4: July 26th, 2008

Friday turned out to be our best day of the meet . We landed the $ 38.40 winner in SO GLITZY in the third race. Later on, we hit a $ 36.75 exacta in the eighth race. And, we almost won a nice price in the Lake George as ALWAJEEHA finished second and had a chance to be catapulted to first on inquiry (but we agree with the stewards call).

3 Day Total : Based on $ 2 Win bets and $ 1 exacta bets:

Wagered: $ 56.00
Returned : $ 113.15
Profit: $ 57.15
Return on Investment: + 1.02 or 102%

Thanks for all your nice emails of support and we will try to continue our positive upswing with Saturday’s card. Looks like this could be the day for serious turf racing.

RACE 1: Inside speed is holding up with regularity in sprints. # 5 ROLLERS has that early speed and has won at Saratoga and off the bench. Will be formidable but we will try for the upset with # 7 TOUGH JAKE who may get Kent Desormeaux his 5,000 win. Since KD has ridden the gelding in his last two starts and blinkers have been added, their is a grand progression. A win last out and we think Tough Jake will be right in the mix for a victory.

PLAY: Win wager on # 7 TOUGH JAKE at odds of 5/1 or better. Exacta box of # 5 and 7. But if odds of Tough Jake are lower than 5/1, pass the race altogether.
*****

RACE 2: Not sure if we will get an honest price in this two year old match. But we do like the two Mott debuters and the Zito first outer. Only thing is, prices probably will be miserly. But if we get fortunate:

PLAY: Win wagers on 4/1 odds of higher for # 1/1A PRINCE OF WEALTH and SUCCESSFUL MISSION and # 6 JUST A COINCIDENCE.
****

RACE 4: # 1 SAINT BARR ran in the slop on Saratoga’s opening day and now is entered by Richard Dutrow 2 days later. Is this old school or what? Saint Barr has the best early speed in this forwardly placed bunch and may be able to gut one out.

PLAY: Let’s get crafty and play # 1 SAINT BARR for the win at odds of 4/1 or higher. The entrymate # 1A ACAI may cause the odds to dip.
*****

RACE 5: State-bred allowance NW1 on the inner turf. We are going to bookend our two top picks. # 1 MINOT LIGHT garners the services of Ramon Dominguez and the rail. Trainer Michael Gorham has had a rough going at this last two Saratoga meets but this may be his time to turn the tide. Like that he is entering state-breds from open company. # 12 ANOTHER GULCH does the same with a move back to state-breds after a second placing last out. Desormeaux rides.

PLAY: Win bets on # 1 and # 12 if you get odds of 4/1 or up.
*****

RACE 6: We have been watching this SoCal trainer Brian Koriner do his magic this spring/summer. Now, he ships # 3 ELUSIVE PLEASURE and has the services of former NY rider Aaron Gryder aboard. Blinkers are added and we think Elusive Pleasure has a real shot to be in the thick of it all.

PLAY: # 3 ELUSIVE PLEASURE gets a win bet at odds of 5/1 or better.
****

RACE 7- The Grade I DIANA is a great turfer and we will try bust out with a pricey winner. Here are our three picks: # 5 VACARE, # 7 RUTHERIENE, # 10 LADY DIGBY.

Play: Win bets: # 5 VACARE ( 3/1 or higher), # 7 RUTHERIENE (9/2 or better) , and # 10 LADY DIGBY (6/1 or higher)
*****

RACE 8: Brian Koriner and Aaron Gryder intrigue us in this G2. Early speed and not sure whether the # 3 BLACK SEVENTEEN can hold the whole race. But we like fact that this horse ships in confidently and worked well at Saratoga. If it rains a tad later in the card, all the more better and this colt loves the off-going. # 2 FIRST DEFENCE is our second choice.

PLAY: # 3 BLACK SEVENTEEN- Win wager at odds of 4/1 or better. # 2 FIRST DEFENCE at odds of 9/2 or better will get a win bet.
****

RACE 10: Saratoga has really done a bang up job on this Saturday card. Tasty Grade 1 Whitney and will go with two. # 2 SOLAR FLARE just missed in the Suburban last out. Will be on or near the lead. # 10 STUDENT COUNCIL has won a G1 at Pimlico and this Cali-based horse should be ready with Asmussen/Bridgmohan.

PLAY: Win bet on # 2 SOLAR FLARE if you get 4/1 or higher. Same thing for # 10 STUDENT COUNCIL. Win bets on 4/1 or higher and all systems are go.

Peace,
Joe Kelley

I fully expect Saint Barr, to scratch, don't you? Isn't this probably a situation where Dutrow entered horses in several races so he would have a choice which ones to run?

Moreover, the other part of the entry may be the better horse.

Bustin Stones scratched so Black 17 is lone speed now, probably 5/2 now.

AP Arrow and Student Council from 10 post ? at 1 1/8 ? good luck
