I need to convert a long column of times expressed as 1:12.34 - no problem, Find and deltede :, but some of the numbers are 01:11.22, and when I delete the : I get a date not, 111.22.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Does right clicking on the column header, choosing "format cell" and selecting "number" then directing it to how many decimal places you want, do the job?

No, it changes the values to totally new numbers.

Change the column to text, then it won't try conversions like you mention. If you need to do calculations, change it back to number after you delete the colons.

I had an issue with this. Try (before importing your data) highlighting a whole block or column of cells where data will go (left click and run cursor over area)

Then go to Format/Cells and choose Text

Then import your data and do the find and replace (leave replace blank) and it should work. Good luck!

I have Excel 2000, so I don't have a lot of import options.
I'm getting the data from an html file and I have only been able to get it by "opening with" Excel.

Then, I insert a new page and copy and paste special the values to get rid of all the clutter from the import.
