Thatta boy John.

But one of the organizers of the new Horseplayers Association of North America (http://blog.horseplayersassociation.org/)feels some bettors have indeed departed the pools for friendlier environments.

“There is no doubt that some players have left the traditional pari-mutuel wagering platforms,” said John Swetye, a Connecticut entrepreneur who helped launch HANA, an advocacy organization for bettors. “Some left because they can't get a bet down with their ADW because it doesn't offer a particular track, or because the player can't have an account with a certain ADW because of where they live.”

Swetye, a former horse owner who is involved in television production and hedge funds, said one of HANA’s goals is to contribute positively to the industry’s solution process. But he said some perceptions are going to have to change.

“Right now, horseplayers get too little respect -- especially among some racetrack executives,” he said. “Horseplayers can not understand why the customer is given so little respect. Without horseplayers, would racetracks exist?”

You just gotta believe. :)

Actually, as I said to Ryan at Bloodhorse (or was it my latest blog?), the time was right for HANA. Handle down 11% post TC, Signal Wars, Drugs, Racetrack officials dissing horseplayers. It was kind of a perfect storm of negative events that got us all motivated.

Everyone involved should be over the moon with our splash so far. I think one thing I underestimated, was not the fan appetite for a group to represent them, but the press's desire to have someone to quote on this side of the fence.

Very impressive, fellers. Keep up the good work for us lazy folk.

Well written, articulate piece, John.

Thanks, Mack. There is still a lot of work to do. This is only the beginning. I hope we're all bred with a good mix of speed and stamina!

After the database is done we should take a pile of those quotes we received from the sign ups and make a post about them. I have seen "it is nice to see someone wanting to represent us" about 20 times I think.
