A few words on R6 the San Diego Grade 2. As the first sentence in yesterday’s blurb indicated if Well Armed was ready he would dust his competition and he did. There are a few observations we can make. Surf Cat is a nice horse but better on real dirt. Rebellion is a sprinter and can’t get a mile and a sixteenth. The other important point is you can win from anywhere on the all-weather track but you better have the best closing kick in the lane. It really looks more and more like a turf race. Go too wide and you can’t get there.

Someone asked for an explanation of the letter designation I use. First of all, they are meant to paint a picture of a given race at the first point of call (quarter mile in sprints and half mile in routes).

S (Speed on the lead of no more than a ½ length off the lead)
P (Presser) a horse that is between ¾ to 2 lengths off.
M (mid-pack) a horse that is 2 ¼ to 5 lengths off the lead
C (closer) more than 5 lengths from the lead at the first call.

Again this is merely a tool to give you a picture on how we see the race to be run.

Ok today we are going to look at Race 2 6F 40000 claiming for 4 year olds and up. The favorites should be #8 Cape Town King, #1 Euroglide , #4 Wheaton Hall and #2 Mr. Ching.

#8 Cape Town King you have to wonder how sound he is. Runs 3 times in 2007 and takes a break for a year. Wins at claiming 25000 off bench and now comes back at a class up and in 24 days. Has a slow work on tab since last race and trainer is very capable. This time he is a play against. He is a speed type and will be pressured on the lead. Look for a bounce here.

#1 Euroglide is really similar to Cape Town King . Was once a good horse early last year but something happened on May 20 2007. Went to the farm for almost a year. Returns and instead of running in the 90 Beyers his speed figure have declined to being eased in his last race. This is a hurt horse.

#2 Mr Cling is one to look for at Fairplex meet.

That leaves us #4 Wheaton Hall. Look for him to sit just behind 1 and 8 and take over in the lane. Play if 4/1 or higher.

The picture of the race at the first call should look like this:
S: 1 8
P: 2 4 7
M 5 9
C 3 6 10

Good luck!
