Geek response: read this (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314853) article on the MicroSoft support site.

Otherwise, put the following string of words into your favorite internet search engine: EXPLORER.EXE command line

Thank you for showing me the way, however, I still cannot change the directory, there must be another explorer.exe (or substitute) that's
preventing me from changing the directory?

How can I get Windows Explorer to default to open on a directory of my choosing?

Create a new shortcut to Windows Explorer and on that shortcut select Properties. The "Target:" field will be something like: "%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe". Simply change that to include the desired directory, like this: "%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe d:\directory". Now that shortcut will open Windows Explorer directly on "d:\directory".

I have a folder on my system called c:\2008

I used this as the target

%windir%\explorer.exe c:\2008

opens right up to the folder above............

let me see if i can make this more clear

right click on your desktop.

Choose "new" "shortcut" when the window opens just type in

"explorer" and hit next then give the shortcut a name

Hit finish.

right click on the new shortcut on your desktop and hit "properties"

the top line should say "target" to the right of that put in your shortcut info

Here is my example

close it and give it a try

Don't forget you can use a keyboard shortcut too......comes in handy

just put your cursor in the keyboard shortcut (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/126449) spot and hit a key on your keyboard. Try something like F12 or such.......

Did a search for windows explorer.exe.........found one that I do not know....
........Explorer.exe-02121B1A.pf?

Is this like the old batch files that's ran at the start of Windows?

The directory is c:\Windows\Prefetch

If so, does this contain the command line to which directory exploror opens to......and how can I open and change this?

Thanks in advance........sinner!

ok.
That's not what you think it is. That is a prefetch file. Don't worry about it and don't screw with it. The way you wanna do it,,,,,,,,, you can't change. You have to do it the way I posted a few messages up from here. Btw, don't screw with the 'several versions" of explorer on your system. Just make the shortcut and use it..............

JustRalph is outta here!!!!
