Imagine if you will, for one second, if George W. Bush made a declaration that he thought FEDERALLY FUNDED religious charities ought to be able to hire and fire based upon a person's RELIGIOUS BELIEFS (and perhaps GWB HAS stated such a thing, I don't know....if he has, I'm sure the left jumped all over him like a bear on a ham steak).

Oh my, this duplicity is just going to make me faint I tells ya.....

Obama to expand Bush's faith based programs
By JENNIFER LOVEN
Associated Press Writer

ZANESVILLE, Ohio (AP) -- Reaching out to religious voters, Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama called for expanding President Bush's program steering federal social service dollars to religious groups and - in a move sure to cause controversy - supported some ability to hire and fire based on faith.

Before you know it, we're going to have some of the four-horsemen on this board giving props to Bush in due time, if this stuff keeps up.

GWB was just well ahead of his times - we may look back someday and all agree...

Then again, maybe not...

If we want to do a better job of ministering to the poor, the hungry, and those in need, the federal government should stop taxing Americans so much – so that Americans can give their money to those who know how to use it wisely, and who have incentives to actually solve problems.

see PA, this is what I keep telling you.

The "stuff" that gets written bears little on what they actually say.

Now , what they say and what they do, who knows.
But, if you read what was written for him to say and I assume was close to what he said(I didn't catch the replay) then you may have something to post on.

The Ap thing linked to is as usual useless, if you care to know what he or Mccain say.

Here's a link.
I don't agree with some of it, I would be more restrictive as to funding for those groups than he lays out.

Perhaps the reason you see such duplicity is because you don't go to the source, the press, most all of them, want to push the conflict and most peope soak it in without a thought.

And yes, GW not only endorsed the "party-religious" as to funding but they also seemed to hire in the SECULAR areas of the gvt on that basis.
The Justice Dept. showed this.

That you would be shocked that a former community org guy who worked through the churches in his areas would be in favour of this kind of deal, is a little strange.

Uh, not to wake you, but you can do that now.
It is good for what ails you.
Hope you would agree.

The first thing should be to donate to something/one besides yourself imo.

No religion required.
You won't miss it after a bit.
I went way too long in life before I figured this out.

What shocks me is that the left cried "THEOCRACY" when Bush brought his faith into the public policy realm, yet I don't hear similar cries about Obama, despite all these recent stories pointing out how important his faith is to him, how he will use his faith when formulating public policy, and now this "endorsement" of the Bush policies, including the proposed employment practices which should have the far-left crying foul very loudly.

Perhaps some of the "Left" are crying that, you may not  be in touch with them.

As to the theocracy part of it, there was a certain problem that Bush and Co. had with the PR end of things from time to time.
It is part of wht gets them in trouble on Iraq, etc.

You almost HAVE to be true believer or else their "message" doesn't ring true.

Bo , for some reason seems to have that side of the deal down so far.

both are stone cold punks. both are examples of how to manipulate the system to fool the people they want to lead.

everyone laughed at hucklebee, he would have been what the doctor ordered here. he lost over 100 pounds, and feels better for it. he doesn't eat the crappy food that everyone sticks in their faces, or takes the bad drugs that the quack doctors dish out to people.

riskman. I have been saying for a few yrs now that we should get the govt out of social prgms and let the charities do it. I have been called hardhearted by many of the left on this board. I see so much fraud just in foodstamps every day by the so called homeless that frequent JN. Now multiply that by millions. These people take advantage of every charity they can, and sell their food stamps 50cents on the dollar. The Id card doesn't stop it. One guy told me 3 different ways he does it.

Ddog, sure we can do it now, but that's not the point. The point is the govt wastes our money trying to help and even the people that really need the help really don't get much because less than 30 cents on the dollar actually gets to them.

lamboguy, you can do what Huckster did. No govt needed. We really don't need the govt tyelling us what to eat but more and more siogns pointing that way.
Just say no to socialism.

Wonder if he got fries with it, too!

The "culture of corruption" continues.
Is he a "man of the people" or "in spite of the people?" :D

Starting to smell like a perch.

The freshman Democratic senator received a discount. He locked in an interest rate of 5.625% on the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage at a time when such loans in Chicago averaged as much as 6%. The loan was unusually large, known in banker lingo as a "super super jumbo." Obama paid no origination fee or discount points, as some consumers did to reduce their interest rates…… …….Around the same time, the University of Chicago Hospitals promoted Michelle Obama to vice president and more than doubled her pay, to $317,000.

any business wastes some money.
I can tell you from front lines, not all or the great majority of it is wasted.
Sorry, but the armies of compassion are more like squads, they are not there in the numbers needed by choice, then what.

if you work at a shelter or a food pantry even a couple of days a month I defy you to stand by that statement.
Your 30cents is hogwash from some MSM goon I suspect.
They don't know what they are talking about in my experience.

And, yes we take gvt handouts if that's all we can get to tide the people over.

You may be the most hard-working guy in the world, great, but you are lucky and should not begrudge those who don't get the breaks you got.
Yes, you got 'em. You may not know 'em. but you got 'em.

the healthcare system is overloaded with people that shouldn't be sick. why should everyone have to pay for peopel because they don't want or know how to take care of themselves.

try loading your system up with sugars, potatoes, pasta, and sweets. it prevents your mechanism's inside your body from fighting diseases.

you want to tell me its alright for someone to kill themselves, because its his choice, and we all have to pay for him. i say prevent the problem, and give that person a chance to become a productive person in this society.

don't you think its time to step up to the plate, instead of burrying the real problems that exist.
