They should have done this in the first place. If you have to have a poly type surface...seems that Pro Ride is the best one for most tracks. Let's hope every horse running there will do well on this surface.

So, handicapping (at least rationally) the upcoming Breeder's Cup will ALMOST be complete guess work as it takes time for these surfaces to mature.

Way to go.

How much will it mature from Wednesday/Thursday to Friday/Saturday?
The big question will be, as it is on all poly, will the horse run on it? Some excell, some regress.

What other tracks use Pro-Ride?
Might be time to check out the breeding of pro-ride winners.

At least they will have a month's worth of racong before the Breeders' Cup. Hoprfully that will provide some idea about any particular bias.

Not according to The Racing Post. They have many more years experience with the rubber than we do and their staff says it takes a year for it to, as they call it, "bed in," and be consistent.

spendabuck...great link...thanks...alot of good reading there...I've been reading about the Pro Ride in the BloodHorse mag for several weeks (an on going item) and it sure seems like the right answer for SA... when SA called in Ian the Pro Ride guy, I was glad about that...those Aussie's do things right.

ZilZal...hope the guys at the Racing Post turn out to be pleasantly surprised if this Pro Ride 'beds down' faster and better than other artificial surfaces.
I hope to hell that the BC races can be run on a surface that is not only safer & kinder....but that plays fair with everyone...
at least the turf horses won't have to be concerned... and if by BC day(s) it's not 'bed down'....then you guys that handicap will have to do the old "eeny, meeny, miney, moe" :)
