“All the milk is out of this cow.”

That expression came to me as I called to mind many of the post here and elsewhere, that alluded to the consideration that if some selection expert or some software can narrow the field down to three or so contenders, then it will be easier to make a profit.

But by the time the field has been narrowed down to the contenders, all the milk has been taken out of the cow. The probability of making a profit on the contenders is the same probability as making a dutch bet on all contenders. That means that each contender is an overlay, or that one of them is so great an overlay it overcomes to sure loss of the losing contenders.

When pigs fly, we'll get more mike out of this cow.
