Seems like there have been a lot of turf races lately, at least at the tracks I play. I know it’s certainly not a new angle but I’ve been having success with first time turf runners, esp those who have shown poor dirt form going against runners with so so turf form (High Draw was a butt saving single for me in the P3 at Bel yesterday ).

My question is: have there been any studies done which show which factor (Sire, Dam, Dam Sire) correlates best with first time turf?

thanks

I know that brisnet offers in there ultimate pp's with comments.. Under the horse i will give Sire dam and dam sire percentages. for 1st time turf and mud percentages. also it will give information of the dams offspring. like how many turf winners she had, how many starters, those that have started how many won, and how many are stakes winners.. hope that helps..

I use Tomlinson numbers to help. Add the turf figure to the distance figure. Closer to 700 the better. Any turf number above 300 on its own is worth noting. Some confirmation with works or the trainer percentage with young stock is valuable. Always take note of a firster that wins a MDN Special on any surface. I believe i read somewhere that 50 plus percent of the eventual winners of Breeder's Cup races won at first asking. It shows raw talent/class in many cases.
