Also this past week, nonresidential construction rose a surprising strong 1.6% for April. This feeds directly into the GDP numbers. And, April factory shipments were up 2.2%. This very strong number implies a good gain for the equipment and software component of business investment in GDP.
If anything, the data the past week suggest stronger than recognized economic conditions. Our GDP forecast is unchanged, but will be raised if current trends continue.
