SACRAMENTO, CA – This is the California Horse Racing Board’s weekly update of complaints, accusations, stewards rulings, and Board decisions involving Class 1, 2, and 3 medication violations and other significant matters.

The stewards at Los Alamitos fined trainer Adan Farias $5,000 for violation of CHRB Rules 1843 (a) (d), 1844 (b) (e) (f), and 1887 after the Maddy Laboratory at UC Davis reported that blood and urine samples taken from a horse in his care, Mia Fancy Fame, exceeded the regulatory threshold for clenbuterol. Clenbuterol is a beta-2 agonist bronchodilator commonly used in horses and is a Class 3 violation. Mia Fancy Fame finished first in the ninth race at Los Alamitos on February 17, 2008. The stewards also issued a $2,500 fine to Jesus Avila, the owner of Mia Fancy Fame, who admitted to administering clenbuterol to the horse at the ranch. The stewards ordered a redistribution of the purse.

The stewards at Los Alamitos fined trainer Danny Montes $2,500 for violation of CHRB Rules 1843 (a) (d), 1844 (b) (e) (f), and 1887 after the Maddy Laboratory at UC Davis reported that blood and urine samples taken from a horse in his care, Shablazin, exceeded the regulatory threshold for clenbuterol. Shablazin finished first in the eighth race at Los Alamitos on March 28, 2008. The stewards ordered a redistribution of the purse.

The stewards at Los Alamitos fined trainer Hector Sanchez $2,500 for violation of CHRB Rules 1843 (a) (d), 1844 (b) (e) (f), and 1887 after the Maddy Laboratory at UC Davis reported that blood and urine samples taken from a horse in his care, Red Sovine, exceeded the regulatory threshold for clenbuterol. Red Sovine finished first in the fifth race at Los Alamitos on April 3, 2008. The stewards ordered a redistribution of the purse.
