It's $100 bucks to Just Join the site... and then another $100.00 to Join the Contest.. all the prize Money is Contingent on 1000 people signing up.... I got as far as entering in My Credit card... then I stopped.... I think I'll watch the First Contest and see if they are for real.... Not Fraudalent... Just... can they get 1000 people to pony up $200.00 between now and March 1st?

and they don't say what they do if More People sign up...Do they pay out ALL money?

I may be coerced into a splitting a Membership with someone if they want to,,, $100 Bucks a Piece.. Or I'll put up the $200. to get started and if three Guys want to Throw in $50.00 Bucks we can go four ways... First prize is $40 Grand

I'm going to watch the first won... rather than go $200.00 by myself....

I know what you mean Suff I dont know how credible these guys are at www.elhandicap.com

I clicked on the about us section and the guys they picture I have never heard of any of them. I recently sent an eamil to Mike Dempsey to see how credible these guys are since his site www.turfnsport.com is advertised there. Mike said he is going to call the guy and see whats up.
I also emailed the guys at elhandicap and ask them if after the contest entry deadline is met will all the contestants picks be available for viewing to everyone. As it would be awful easy if you own the site to put in an entry after the races are over and take down the top prize money. Hoping these dudes are credible. Never know in this world today!!!!!!!! One thing is elhandicap does advertise at DRF and thats not cheap but who knows...

This is the email they sent me sounds credible. Makes me feel better since I already joined.

Dear John

el Handicap ensure that all the rules of fair play and honesty are upheld.
The entire contest is absolutely transparent - The following will
demonstrate.

We have spent over a year analyzing the online handicapping dynamic and have
come up membership interfaces that allow for customer security, reporting
accuracy and premium enjoyment.

When a contest entrant registers for the contest, they are immediately taken
to the entrants and results page - Where they can view all the members that
have entered the contest prior to their entry. This page also showcases the
picks of each individual contestant.

The contest is executed in real-time; therefore, information about each race
is automatically updated at the end of each race. This includes the winners
and the points for the race.

As each race is completed the ENTRANTS and RESULTS page is updated and the
currently leader is showcased at the top of the leaderboard. The
corresponding 2nd, 3rd..... are right below the winner in a points
chronological order.

We pride ourselves on organizing and executing an error-free and
corruption-free tournament.

The tournament is for the enjoyment of all - Please email us if your
questions have not been answered.

Yes Formula they do look like a bunch of thugs but the contest will be ok since all entries can be seen before contest starts along with their picks. If you get lucky enough to win a share of the contest whether youll get paid or not may be a gamble. But thats a risk Ill take Ive lost more than 200 dollars before in one race more than once in my life so what the hell. If they dont payout they will be prosecuted and go to prison, and I dont think they are going to take that risk especially after posting their pictures on the internet. Suff may have the right idea sit this one out and see if its for real.

I dont know the rules and laws of holding a money contest but their must be some kind of laws because hell if there are no laws I would get an internet site and hold a contest every week and take a percentage of the pot for myself for doing the work of putting the contest on. Hmmmmmm sounds like a plan!!!!!!!!! What the hell life is a gamble.

They say, "Congratulations to Robert Bertolucci our Inaugural Handicapping Contest Winner. More info will be posted soon."

I asked (via email), "> Could you send me the results of your "Inaugural Handicapping Contest"?<

They respond (via email on 2/11),> "That information is currently posted in our Contest Page under Entry Fee
Contest Results for el Handicap members. We're waiting for pictures of our
top two finishers. Soon we'll post those results with pictures in our
homepage. Just keep checking our site for updates."<

I'll pass on paying $100 just to find out the winners and their respective prizes. That info should be readily available and freely distributed. Should take 10 minutes to upload to a website via FrontPage.

jrdhorse: If you want to go to the site and copy and post here it would be much appreciated.

Furthermore, what's up with this statement from the website:

"PRIZE MONEY IS BASED ON 1000 ENTRANTS. PRIZE MONEY WILL BE REDUCED OR INCREASED PROPORTIONATELY FOR THE NUMBER OF ENTRANTS UNDER OR OVER 1000.

Capped at 1000 entrants."

Seems contradictory on the upside.

I also Noticed that all the INFO with any meat to it... is only viewable after you pony up the Dough....

Jrdhorse.

The information on the "about us" page was sparse.

The pictures could be of anyone...

No references, affiliations, address...

These guys could be working out of a dorm!!!
(Possibly with those "college girls" that keep sending me
e-mails.)

Thats a good idea I guess anyone from this forum could hold a handicapping contest and appoint someone to hold the money. Seems like a good plan!!!!!!!! Figuring out how to collect and send the money would not be that hard I guess.

Suff--

Used to get one every morning for a year--owed about seven grand and one day they came to my house and said--"We need to talk!"

In those days they wiped em out after you spent 24 hours in jail and a very slight pecentage of the total....today they would throw away the key!!!!

Hello Guys,

My name is Ed Santos. I’m a race analyst for el Handicap.com. I was a finalist for the NTRA National Handicapping Championship for 2002 representing Foxwoods Casino. I had participated in the Suncoast and The Orleans Handicapping Tournaments. I have won local Tournaments.

Robert Bertolucci who’s a regular at the Las Vegas Tournaments won our last Contest.
Michael Labriola who came in third is a writer for Horseplayer Magazine.

They got paid, had fun and will be participating in our March 1st Tournament.

I understand your concerns because we’re new. Your feedback is welcome at info@elhandicap.com.

Sorry if I look like a thug……LOL…….

Well guys it looks like the last post is right from the horses mouth. His credentials seem pretty reputable. Has anyone changed their mind about this company. Its going to be interesting to see how many entries they actually get. It seems they are going to get all the professional horse contest players that play the circuit form the sound of that last post. Who knows!!!!!!!!!!!

hurrikane

it does sound like the cream of the crop. That is fine with me. The big problem I have is this.
You post all your horses before 1pm and if there is a scratch you get the post time fav.
If I wanted to bet chalk I would have done that in the first place!

I hate that. It sucks!
No thank you.

The biggest question I have is if everyone's picks will be posted and known by the competitor's. If not, how do we know the scorekeeping is on the up and up, and that it is not prearranged for someone (a friend) to win?

ED

What are we getting for the $100.00 membership. That is the problem. The privledge to play in your tournaments. When you close your site do we get our membership fees back. This is a steep price to pay for the priveledge of playing tournaments on line.

CJMILKOWSKI if you check out the other posts you can find the format of the contest and it says all entries will be available to view as well as the entries selections after the entry deadline is met. Also states the contest has live scoring after the first race is run.

100k is a lot of loot. How do you know that the winner will get paid ? It's just a website ! I dont think they have somebody holding the $ in escrow. They may even be off shore. I entered a contest a thoroughbredbets.com and won and I am still waiting for the $500 check !! Hoe long has this site been around ?

How about a report back on the March 1st contest by these guys?

Their were only 22 players who entered the contest last week. I think they need to lower the entry fee.

hurrikane
03-03-2003, 03:15 PM
what they need is to lower the membership fee. I personally don't want to pay even $1 to have these mooks tell me what horses to bet.

Jrdhorse
03-03-2003, 04:03 PM
Your right I would lower the membership and take a percentage of money from the contest for providing the service of putting the contest on. Take a look at the showdown contest that www.nyra.com puts on, cost only 10 dollars and they get thousands of entries.

Hello Guys,

Jrdhorse I would like to know how you did in Saturday’s Tournament.
Because I don’t know which member you are.

On MARCH 15, 2003 we’ll be having a FREE PICK 10 CHALLENGE.
No Membership Required & No Entry Fee.
There will be cash prizes.

On March 22, 2003 we’ll be having another Entry Fee Tournament.

We do not make moneys on any Handicapping Tournaments.
All moneys get paid out to winning members.

We do charge a membership fee, with that we could run a live on-line handicapping tournament, a live updated site, offer free tournaments, and prizes at the end of the year for our ranked gold members.

We are considering an inexpensive Bronze membership that will only allow you to participate in entry fee tournaments, good for a month.
Price range will be about $10-20.

Please your Feedback is welcome.

Good Luck at the Races.
