In a 4 horse field I guess they decided to keep trifecta wagering and it paid $48.40 for a $2 ticket. If you had boxed all four horses for $2 you would have made 40 cents lol but you were guaranteed to win cause there were only 4 horses and you had 4 boxed lol. Laughs :D

The winner paid $9.20, so you could have bet $8 to win $1.20 that way as well.

Many races, regardless of field size will show a profit on an ALL bet. Look at Giacomo paying $100 in a 20 horse field.

Keeping Trifecta wagering, simply gave them a bigger cut of the mutuel dollars bet.

There's certainly no guarantee that a tri (or any exotic) payoff will be greater than the cost of a boxed ticket. Had the order of finish been different you could have boxed four horses and seen a much smaller tri payoff.
