Sydney Pollack. I have always liked him so much, such a classy guy.

Apologies to all on a horse racing board, but I always admired (I wouldn't necessarily say enjoyed because it's not a "feel-good" movie) his They Shoot Horses, Don't They?, especially Gig Young's Oscar-winning turn as the dance marathon emcee.

Sydney was a good friend of a friend of mine and I shot the breeze with him on a few occasions. I heard he thought I was a funny cat and he always told a pretty good tale.

The resemblance between he and a friend of mine who was the head of Lorimar Television was uncanny. For a black-tie affair I knew I'd be seated at Sydney's table so I invited my chum. They looked at each other in amazement for quite some time.

I did an impersonation of his bit with Hoffman in Tootsie that he thought was rather entertaining.

One good fella. He'll be missed.

mack,

Sorry for your loss. :(

Say, wasn't he the guy whose character said, "I made my bones when you were still chasing cheerleaders?" That line has been used to death as a radio drop. I can't find anything on IMDB about it. I think it was in Goodfellas, but he's not listed in the cast.

Articulate speaker and humble, as many of his interviews were on this week at PBS.

REPEATEDLY lamented that movies were not as good today as $$$$$ was the driving factor not quality of story.

Those are some seriously good movies. I always felt "This Property is Condemned" was quite underrated.

I didn't know he made Jerimiah Johnson............great director

Whomever chose Will Geer for his part in that movie should of received an Oscar just for that decision.
