I won $900 on a $2 bet back in the 70s. I had bet an exacta with a 70-1 shot on top and the favorite second. The horse I bet to win had the best speed rating at the distance in the form before he went lame several races back. This was my biggest score at the track. How about you?

It was at Evangeline Downs,1996,the inaugural (?)running of a high dollar stakes race.Raining cats and dogs at the host track.I'm coming home from work and decided to stop at Remington.I dope out the race, and come up with the morning line favorites.I don't get too excited till I see their odds on the board.Double digits on the top three I come up with.?????
But I hammer the exacta and double up on the trifecta. All the speed holds up and my picks come in.1k on the xacta and over 3k on the tri.(I think at that time I had the only winning tri tickets because simulcasting was not as wide spread as it is now).So when my wife tells me shes preggers a month later,I know why I would need the money....
I've had many signers since then, not as much at one time, but enough to convince me I could do worse than bet horses.

I've had a few big scores, but I always remember the first one...the one that made my day and made sure I would play the horses forever! I played a horse named Lancaster's Aggie, had $20 to win and the horse came in and paid $76.60......from that moment of cashing that voucher...I was hooked !

I hate to admit this, but my two biggest scores both came at  harness  tracks. Hit a tri at Freestate one night that paid $6400 for a $3 bet, and I had it for the whole 3. Then, I hit a twin tri at Brandywine for $7000. The irony is, I don't follow harness one lick anymore...nada, nothing, zilch. Back in the day, it was the only night time product in town, and there was no simulcasting then either. Both tracks have since been demolished!

Hit Pick 6 in 1984 for 64K plus consolations (only 25%)

Hit pick 6 in 1990 for 72k.

Played the pick6 from 1984 to 1992. Then stopped as the rules got harder to beat. That's where my moniker comes from. The guys would say here comes pick 6 vic. Only play occasionally.

my favorite one of all times is at LRL(actually may have been Bowie) in 1979
Capuano horse with Desourmeux up. 3yo MSW 99-1 Had 10 bucks on him.
All I could do is shake my head. I couldn't believe a Cap/Des horse at LRL going off at 99-1. Still don't believe it to this day.

I've hit bigger but that one sticks with me for some reason.

Most memorable was hitting a 30-1 shot in the nightcap of a Friday night Hollywood card. It was about 2:30am in Boston and it was so foggy at Hollywood that you could only see the start of the race (16th) and the finish.

I've never had the luxury of having to sign.:(

Is that Kent Desormeaux or was there another one before my time? I'm not sure I'd bet on a 9-year old jockey either....

I was wondering about that myself, I was in Maryland back then, and I could be wrong, but I don't remember Gary Capuano training at the time. I think hurrikane has the date a little off. I think Kent D was big in Maryland in the mid to late 80s.

Not my biggest, but my favorite was running to the window to play a 16-1 horse at Santa Anita, told the teller $2 exacta 5-all, she replied $28 dollars? After asking why so much when there were only 8 horses in the race we realized she boxed the ticket, 5-all, all-5. Now it was too late to cancell the ticket and I bought it anyway and watched as my horse was clear in the lane only to see a 50-1 freight train roll past her a few lengths before the wire. $1844 to the good on that one, minus a generous tip for the gal at the window. Now I could have stiffed her since I am sure these same tellers have cost me many a bet, but it was easy to take the high road on this occasion.
