Bettors had no chance to cash.

I read about this same story on Bloodhorse. What I took away was there is a finger pointing exercise starting. Scientific Games says it's the terminal vendors glitch.

This is the hand of the man upstairs in action. God helps those that help themselves and punishes the lazy that lean on quick picks. Who are these bureaucrats to tinker with gods will and reward the lazy quick pick morons.

There are thousands of people who go to the races as a way of "gambling" or for the experience of a lovely sporting afternoon. Not everyone burns the midnight oil in search of an overlay to chunk it in on like we do.

Quick picks are fine for them.

Sharp players should love the people who bet quick picks as they add "dumb money" to the pools.

From a racetrack management standpoint, any time we can get an uninitiated player to make a wager, it is a good thing. Studies have shown that most new race goers are intimidated by the past performances and the betting machines, so stepping up and pushing a button for a quick pick helps diffuse some of that.

We need more players. What if every lottery player in the U.S. spent five bucks a week at the track. Wouldn't that be grand?

Several tracks now offer other wageringing options - Longshot Louie, Favorites Phil, etc. generated by formulas within the wagering system. It is another way to wager without handicapping yourself. Eventually, public handicapper's selections will be programed into the machine so you could just walk up and bet who Jeff Siegel likes or Mike Battaglia's longshot. That is a cool option for the casual player who sees these guys on t.v. or reads their column in the newspaper.
