I don't believe he ever sired a single colt or gelding who won an eclipse award.

I know he's had a pair of champion 2yo fillies in Sweet Catomine and Storm Flag Flying.

Sharp Cat remarkably never won an Eclipse.

Jalil, an $9+ million Storm Cat yearling is just now (at four) coming into his own and is being pointed towards the $6m Dubai.

Jalil ran in the race back in March and was a well beaten 7th.

Quite possibly the most overrated sire in the history of the sport

Quite possibly the most overrated sire in the history of the sport

In his defense he did sire Giants Causeway and ROA horse of the year and Tabasco Cat.

However, I pretty much agree with that statement.

Storm Cat: Overrated????????

How many North American sires have surpassed him in stakes winners with 160 to his credit?

I believe only Mr.Prospector, who bred up until the day he died in 1999 at age 29, and was never pensioned. He sired 165 stakes winners.

Upon Seattle Slew's death he had sired only 101 stakes winners.

I don't recall all others, but I always figured Storm Cat, pretty valuable in this regard. I don't believe I've ever read him termed as overrated.

Saw him run at the 85 Breeder's Cup at Aqueduct.

We had one of his first stakes winners out here named Senate Appointee. A great filly.

I broke a few of his babies and most of them were "fragile of mind". It wouldn't take much to screw their minds up. As yearlings, they were either impressive or they weren't. There was no in between. I was more impressed with the Danzigs that I broke more than the Storm Cats.

"Fragile of mind"! LOLOL Does anyone recall that great headcase, Fusaichi Pegasus. I'm sure all here do.

Lord, was John Ward glad, when he shipped him to Neil Drysdale.

Any of the Mr. Prospectors I broke never showed as much "mind" as the Storm Cats. The Mr. Ps' class made it more tolerable.
