This thread should probably in the harness racing section (a moderator will probably move it) but nevertheless, I don't know of any links, but when I want to know a harness track's takeout rates on the various types of bets, I send an email to a track and request this information.

It's a good question on your part though. Something should be done. Sites like brisnet.com have takeout charts for thoroughbreds. In my opinion, a site like ustrotting.com should be supplying harness racing takeout charts, since they supply a lot of other information on their sites about facts and figures of each Canadian and U.S. harness track. Plus, this site has info about drivers, trainers and many other categories.

I think a good action plan for harness fans would be for them to lobby the folks at ustrotting.com for a harness track takeout chart. Nothing ever will be accomplished by just talking about it though. ACTION IS THE KEY! Who is willing to send an email to ustrotting.com? I'm willing. I'll do my part right now. Who's next?

I don't know where you get your figures from, but at my home track of NORTHLANDS PARK, the takeout rates on straight betting I believe, are the same as STAMPEDE PARK. NORTHLANDS PARK is a dual-purpose track...i.e. they race both harness and thoroughbreds at different times in the year.

If you take a look at the takeout charts at brisnet.com, they are missing the takeouts for NORTHLANDS PARK

If you look at the takeout rates at STAMPEDE PARK you'll see that your figures are on the low side.

If I remember correctly, in past Northlands Park programs, they will say the track takeout for STRAIGHT WAGERING is 10 %, but upon closer inspection of the fine print they'll list another 5.8 % for an additional takeout for provincial taxes etc. for a grand total of 15.8 %. This STRAIGHT BET rate for STAMPEDE PARK and NORTHLANDS PARK is the lowest in Canada. However, their gimmick takeout rates are nothing to write home about.

Nevertheless, if one makes straight bets at STAMPEDE PARK or NORTHLANDS PARK through PTC, you get a three way aid in reducing the disadvantage against the bettor:

1. LOWEST TRACK TAKEOUT ON STRAIGHT WAGERS IN CANADA.

2. ONLY NICKEL BREAKAGE AT CANADIAN TRACKS (UNLIKE THE RIP-OFF, DIME BREAKAGE AT MOST AMERICAN TRACKS).

3. CASH REBATE FROM PTC.

--Those are three more good reasons I like betting the thoroughbreds at these two Alberta tracks.

Another inquiry into take out rates prompted me to post my own take out chart here.
Numbers I find around the web are too old or just misleading.

I'm currently updating the exacta pool rates so when complete I'll add it to the end of this thread.

These rates are calculated by using "will pays" for all possible outcomes for a specific race, either Win chart odds or Exacta "will pay" tables. Excel spreadsheet has a solver function that can be used to determine what the "fraction of the pool removed" must have been in order to produce those payoffs. This includes breakage which can be as low as 0 to as much as 10 cents on the dollar. Most US tracks break to the dime, Canadian tracks break to the nickel. (New York uses a sliding scale)
Because of breakage there is a slight difference in percent takeout from race to race so for my win pool rates I use an average of 10 to 20 races. For Exactas, which must be done by cut and paste) I average 5 races. (Breakage is not as great a factor in exactas due to the larger payoffs except for

$2.10 to 9.99 payoff, break to 10 cents; $10 to 49.99 payoff, break to 20 cents; $50 to 499.99 payoff, break to 50 cents; $500 and up, break to $1.00.

Numbers should be accurate to +/- 0.5% (slightly higher on exacta) and include breakage

BTW I have no explanation for Monticello being 21.3% on win bets
